NOVA SATELLITE MEMBERSHIP OPTION
If you are a coach or swimmer that would like to receive our monthly practices via email then consider becoming a Nova Satellite Member. The cost is $100 a year to get our monthly PDF of practices sent via email.
Satellite Members are also welcome to register as a Nova Masters swimmer with USMS and compete with the team at meets and be included on relays. This is not a REQUIREMENT, as several swimmers and coaches who compete for other teams would just like to receive our practices for motivation.
If you do register with USMS as a Nova Swimmer and compete at our regional or national chammpionships you also reveive a Nova Masters T-shirt and swim cap.

NOVA MASTERS SET 1 NATIONAL RECORD AND 6 AGE GROUP TITLES AT 2009 SC NATIONALS
CLOVIS, CA - 18 Nova Masters swimmers competed at the 2009 Short Course National Championships held May 7-10 at Clovis North High School just outside of Fresno.
Leading the outstanding team performance was Jamie Fowler who won 3 individual events and set a national age group record in the 200 IM.
Below are the dail reports which were sent out at the conclusion of each day:
Day 1 Report
CLOVIS, CA - Six Nova Masters swimmers competed on the first day of the US Masters Short Course Nationals. The first day of the meet was the two distance events - 1,000 Free and 1,650 Free.
Dionne Caldwell was the top finisher for the team on day 1, taking the National Title in the 1650 for the 75-79 age group. Other top 3 finishes included Susanne Simpson, 2nd in both the 1,000 and 1,650 Free in the 45-49 age group, and Ellen Shockro was 3rd in both the 1,000 and the 1,650 Free for the 65-59 age group.
Four Nova Team Records were set as well. Susanne Simpson broke the 1,000 & 1,650. Coach Michael Collins clipped Katsu's 1000 Free record by a second in the 40-44 age group, and Jim Riddle knocked a few seconds off of Jeff Crossen's 45-49 record.

Day 2 Report
CLOVIS, CA - Day 2 of the USMS Short Course nationals went well for the Nova Masters. Jamie Fowler was the top performer of the day winning the 100 Backstroke National title in the 45-49 age group (53.75), and breaking 3 individual and 2 relay Nova team records.
Other top 3 finishes included the 45+ Men's 200 freestyle relay, consisting of Jamie Fowler, Gerard Von Hoffmann, James Riddles and Tord Benner, placed 2nd in a time of 1.33.08 - which was 5 seconds faster than the old team record.
3rd places went to Gerard Von Hoffmann in the 200 Breast 50-54 AG (2.18.50) and Dionne Caldwell in the 200 Free 75-79 AG (3.26.38)
Eight individual Nova Masters records were broken today, including a very close steal of another of Katsu's records by coach Mike in the 400 IM, and a reduction of former Nova coach Paul Carter's 200 free record by Jim Riddle.
Team records were also broken in the 35+ 200 Mixed Medley.

Day 3 Report
Another great day was enjoyed by the Nova Masters at USMS Nationals, winning two more individual National Titles including a National record; additionally three second places, two third places, and a second place relay.
Jamie Fowler followed up his 100 Backstroke National Title with two more National titles today. Jamie set the NATIONAL RECORD in the 45-49 AG for the 200IM in a time of 1.58.46, taking 6 seconds off the Nova team record he set last month at SPMA Regionals.
Jamie also won a third 2009 National Title in the 200 Backstroke 45-49 AG today. His time of 1.57.16 was 6 seconds ahead of 2nd place. He also took a whopping 20 seconds off the Nova team record. As he prepares to enter a new age group, he came within a hair's breadth of breaking this National record too.
Dionne Caldwell continued her run of top 3 finishes with a 2nd in the 500 Free 75-75 AG (9.04.22) and a 3rd in the 50 Free 75-75 AG (42.06), beating the existing Nova team record by over 3 seconds in the 50 Free.
Gerard Von Hoffmann claimed 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke 50-54 AG with a 1.01.28, shaving down his previous Nova team record of 1.01.56.
Everett Smethurst also took 2nd in the 200IM 70-74 AG in a time of 3.26.61.
2nd place also went to the Nova 45+ 200 Medley realay, consisting of Tord Benner, Gerard Von Hoffmann, Jamie Fowler and Jim Riddle. Their 1.43.17 time bested the previous 7 year old Nova record by over 6 seconds.
Ted Bramble took 3rd place in the 100 Fly M35-39 AG with a time of 52.13, over a second off the old Nova record.
Other individual Nova Masters records were broken by Tanya Maclean in the 200 Back 30-34 AG (2.37.63) (was 2.38.22) and the 50 Back 30-34 AG (32.21) relay (was 32.59)
Team Relay records were also broken in the Men's 25+ (1.43.17) (was 1.43.86) and Women's 25+ (2.07.59) (was 2.10.80) 200 medley relays.

Day 4 Report
The last day of the USMS Nationals resulted in another National Title plus 4 other individual top 3 finishes.
Susanne Simpson won the 200 Butterfly National Title in the 45-49 AG in a time of 2.21.06.
Jamie Fowler finished 2nd in both the 100IM & 50 Back (narrowly missing victories in both). In the IM he swam 54.21, beating his previous Nova team record of 55.71. In the 50 back he went 25.15 to break his team record of 25.85.
Dionne Caldwell placed 3rd in the 100IM in a time of 1.52.01, also setting a new Nova team record.
Gerard Von Hoffmann claimed 3rd in the 50 Breaststroke 50-54 AG in a time of 28.39.
Other individual Nova Masters records were broken by Gerard Von Hoffmann in the 100 IM 50-54 AG (57.27)- the record was 57.96. Jim Riddle took 7 seconds off Jeff Crosson's 500 free 45-49 AG Nova team record with a time of 5.10.70 (was 5.17.65) and also took a second off previous Nova coach Paul Carter's 100 free 45-49 AG record with a time of 51.41 (was 52.41).

AWESOME RELAY PERFORMANCES LEAD NOVA TO 6th STRAIGHT TITLE!
MISSION VIEJO, CA - The Nova Masters Swim Team won their 6th concecutive Southern Pacific Masters Swimming Championship title largely due to the strength of their relay performances.
In a close battle with the host Mission Viejo Nadadores team, Nova came out on top by scoring 3,010.5 points to Missions' 2,862. San Diego finished a distant 3rd with 983 points.
Going into the meet the team race looked to be extremely close as Mission Viejo was seeded to win by a mere 6 points without including any relays. However, relays are a big part of the meet and points are double for relays.
Nova Coach Michael Collins strategized to load the relays on the first two days and the plan worked. Nova came into the last day with a 350 point lead which was just too much for Mission Viejo to make-up on the last day.
"We knew they were going to score about 200 points more than us on the last day, and that's just about what they got. We had a smaller group at the meet on Sunday, but they held their own both in indivual swims and especially on relays. It was great to win the meet for the 6th concecutive time," Coach Collins commented.
Nova had just shy of 100 athletes participating in the meet which was about 10 more than Mission Viejo. The next larged team was about 30 swimmers.

A total of 37 Nova Masters swimmers participated on relays that finished with the top top in the country for their age group for 2008. Only Oregon Masters (57), Walnut Creek (53), Gold Coast, FL (40), and San Diego (38) had more.
