CRAIG TAYLOR PLACES 4th AT DOUBLE WAIKIKI SWIM

HONOLULU, HI - Nova Swimmer Craig Taylor finished 4th overall at the Double Waikiki Open Water Swim (4.8 miles) on Dec 19, 2004. Craig's wife Geri finished 2nd in the 45-49 in 2:30+. Overall first 5 finishers: 1. Rick Heltzle - 1:37:43. 1st 45 to 49 age group. 2. Bill Goding - 1:39+. 1st 50 to 54 age group. 3. Paul Kawai - 1:40:33. 1st 30 to 34 age group. 4. Craig Taylor - 1:41:38 & 2nd 50 to 54 age group. 5. Bob Momson - 1:47+. 1st 55 to 59 age group. Here's what Craig had to say about the event: "A great trip, good weather, & a nice event. I highly recommend the event if you can swing a trip to the islands right before Christmas. Unless the jellyfish are due to show up, it's always the weekend after the Honolulu Marathon."

NOVA TEAM PLACES 2nd AT TURKEY TROT

DANA POINT, CA - Approximately 40 Nova athletes participated in the 2004 Turkey Trot 5 & 10k Races on Thanksgiving Day. The top male finisher in the 10k for the Nova's was Jon Clark who blazed to a 33:05 (5:19 pace per mile)for 4th place in 30-34, and led the team to a 2nd place team finish behind the Snail's Pace Running Club (Not a bad finish for a SWIMMING TEAM). The other placing runners on the team were Kyle Hughes (34:37), Michael Collins (34:59), Ian Pyott (37:37), and Mike Cowdrey (37:54).

Christen King was the top female finisher for the team with a 41:44 for 16th overall female and 3rd in the 25-29 age group. Tim Hughes (father of Kyle) won the 55-59 age group in 39:00.

Steve Schumacher, 47 was the top Nova finisher in the 5K with an 18:54. Paula Fell led the ladies and placed 5th in 35-39 with a 22:36.

LOUIS BEDNAR WINS DAM SPRINT TRIATHLON

LAKE PERRIS, CA - Five Nova members participated in the DAM Sprint and Big Rock Triathlon at Lake Perris, November 20th, 2004. In the Sprint race Louis Bednar was 1st overall in 1:53:18. He won by over 2 minutes! Joel "Mole" Rodgers was 3rd in the Clydesdale Division and Kerry Dewitt was 4th in 35-39 women in her first triathlon! In the Long Race Tom Majchrowski finished 10th in 30-34 (up from 15th in 2003) and Ron Ikehara was 6th in 40-44. IAN PYOTT WINS CATALINA FOR 2nd YEAR IN A ROW

AVALON, CA - Nova triathlete Ian Pyott won the 2004 Catalina Sprint Triathlon for the second consecutive year on Nov. 6, 2004. His winning time of 1:01:48 was nearly one minute ahead of second place finisher Kevin Bree (1:02:42), and 1:09 ahead of 3rd place finisher (and Nova coach) Michael Collins. Kristen Thorkelson (pictured running with her bike) was the top female finisher for the Novas. She won the 30-34 age group in 1:20:11 and was the 4th overall female. Other division winners were Tim Hughes in the 55-59 division and Natalie Barrad in the Women's Team Division.
