11/15 - Penn Hills can't stop Plum comeback but curfew does

Posted by Jeff Mauro on Nov 15 2001 at 04:00PM PST
MONROEVILLE - Penn Hills Jerry Bass could write a book on the curfew rule. In 2000, the Indians were bumped down two playoff spots when the league reversed a ruling and last year Penn Hills almost made the playoffs and the curfew rule got them again ! Thursday night's affair at the Golden Mile before a standing room only crowd between Penn Hills and arch rival Plum would be another in the chapter. The teams traded goals in the first period as Plum outshot the Indians 9-1. In the second, freshman Ryan Jones scored twice in two minutes to give the Indians a 3-1 lead. Josh Iachini extended the lead to 4-1 late into the second. Coach Stu Relnick's crew mounted a comeback as Robbie Tunon, Lenny Blatnica and Sergio Somma scored three unanswered goals to tie the score midway through the third. With Plum carrying alot of momentum, the game was curfewed with a little over 3 minutes left. When the playoffs are decided in late February, that could be a big point which will never be known to be decided. And Coach Bass hopes that this time the pendulim swings in Penn Hills favor. imageimage
