News and Announcements

Clear Lake 61 - Frisco 71

Frisco (District 9 4A, ranked 16th in the state  in 4A). After an unimpressive close victory in their first round game against Grapevine, it appeared Lake would handle the Raccoons with aplomb but the 'coons #24 Ben Dillard (son of college basketball coach Sherman Dillard, currently an assistant coach for the Iowa Hawkeyes) and # 23 Pierce Lahey thought otherwise. Despite streaky performances by Dillard in both games, the duo combined for a total of 42 points to deny the Falcons their aspirations of continuing in the winners bracket.

The Raccoons tallied 28 of 34 free throws to outscore the Falcons by 16 points at the charity stripe. Poor outside shooting did not help the Falcons cause either.

The Falcons will face Leander at 12:30 pm Tuesday.

Clear Lake 86 - Pasadena Memorial 50

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Dec 15, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Clear Lake 86 - Pasadena Memorial  50

To say that Lake had done their homework and scouted the Mavericks (8-7) would be an understatement. I have seen Memorial play 6 or 7 times already this season and, in my opinion, they have the best team they have had since the school was opened. And they should have given Clear Lake a close game. But tonight Clear Lake made a decent team look bad because the Falcons were so totally prepared for the contest and they executed their plan with noticeable competence.

Since Lake had lost to Memorial for the last two years, the Lake squad was motivated to not let it happen again. With only a couple of exceptions, Clear Lake put on a dominant exhibition of how to win a basketball game against what should have been a formidable opponent.

There will be a delay in posting the stats for this game. Action photos of this game are forthcoming. To view game photos of this season's game, go to  http://picasaweb.google.com/falconhoops. Use the Browser's "BACK" or "BACK Arrow" to return to this website.

Clear Lake Falcon Boys Basketball Booster Club Minutes

Dec 13, 2010, Krueger Field House Gym – Clear Lake High School

Present

Coach Penders, Coach Frye, Don Wilkerson
Terry Krenek- President,
Leigh-Ann Train- Sr rep/Hospitality, Sally Sugarek-Secretary
8 Parents

Agenda

  • Treasurer report / update
  • Recap of CCISD tournament at CLHS/ Concessions
  • Miscellaneous items

First agenda item.    Treasurer Joe Swingle was not at the meeting, but Terry Krenek gave an update of the treasury status:

Currently we have $3200 cash in the bank and an additional $2000 in the activity fund. There is also a little more money from candy sales not included. He also gave a comparision between this year and last year in regards to several items:

3 on 3 Tournament net $1500 this year vs $3000 last

Sponsors $1300 this year vs $ $1500 last

Membership $1150 this year vs $1750 last

We will also be getting one fourth of the net from concessions at the CCISD tournament split between 4 schools- Lake, Creek, Brook & Springs , so approximately $343.72 per school.

Coach Penders said we are short compared to last year and that mainly affects their ability to buy meals for all the boys at the away games.  It was mentioned by Leigh Ann that we have had less concession opportunities so far this year vs last year, but will have opportunities with upcoming concessions, as long as people volunteer to help work them.

Second agenda item. Coach Penders said the CCISD tournament held at Lake went well. The concessions and hospitality room were great and everything ran smoothly.  He thanked everyone who helped by bringing food, or working concessions, etc.  Leigh Ann also agreed that we set the bar high by having concessions open for 12 hours in Krueger & also some hours in the main building.  We also provided workers during a day assigned to another school.  She made some suggestions for whoever heads it up next year, for them to be sure there is plenty of communication between the schools involved. Especially since next year Lake will be one of the 2 schools that do not have to be responsible for concessions and hospitality, (but the tournament will still be held at Lake). Each year 2 of the schools do not have to provide shifts, but are still included in the split of the proceeds between the schools. Leigh Ann also stated that workers are still needed for the Varsity game this Friday at 3pm, and others still needed for next Monday & Tuesday.  We need to have people step up and work 2-3 shifts during the season.  The concessions are a large part of the money that comes into the program.

Additional items.
Coach Frye said the raffle ticket sales will begin this Friday, Dec 17, for the chance to win a signed Earl Campbell picture, a signed Luis Scola basketball, or a signed Calvin Murphy basketball.  Tickets are $5 each and will be sold during the district season until winners are announced at either the last or next to last game. Coach Penders went over the upcoming schedule for Varsity:  they will leave the day after Christmas for the out of town tournament.  They will be staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites at The Colony from 12/26 until their return late on 12/28.  The phone number for the Fairfield Inn & Suites will be posted on the website so parents/fans can also stay at the same location.  Varsity will resume practices the 29th-1st, and then into the next week…(until school starts again on Jan 5th), sometime between 9-3 (times to be announced) Other teams (JV, Soph, Fr) will likely have their own practice schedules as well.  Coach also said he would like to offer the kids a chance to purchase something they can keep, such as a backpack (similar to the warm-up jerseys bought by the students) for the team.  There was a brief discussion of the new uniforms, and old ones will pass down thru the ranks. Coach Penders also mentioned the ‘Your Life Coaching’ that Varsity has been participating in and what a positive difference it is making for the players.  Don Wilkerson said a new American flag is needed in the main building and Coach Penders responded that he has already put in the work order for that, but it takes some time.  Don also stated that a Texas flag is needed for the Krueger Field House.

Meeting adjourned and we will meet next on January 10th.

Tentative agenda for the next meeting was not discussed. Email Sally Sugarek at sssugarek@sbcglobal.net with additions or corrections to these minutes.

(Fees are based on a three-hour scrimmage.)

NOTE: After three hours, each additional hour is $25. The fees paid are regardless of the level of competition. The fee will be paid to the local chapter and not to the individual officials, to be used in place of assignment or service fees. A portion of these fees should be used for education, retention and recruitment of officials.

Chapters that agree to provide officials and charge for scrimmages are under obligation to provide officials for the school for the entire season, grades 7-12.

A chapter that requests a service/assignor fee from schools will not be a chapter in good standing and thus will not be eligible for post-season assignments.

    1. Metro - flat rate of travel reimbursement from the center point in chapter to game site. 20 mile radius = $12; 30 mile radius = $15; 40 mile radius = $18. Any school outside the 40 mile radius will revert to the non-metro mileage reimbursement for pay from that school.

      1. The UIL will determine the online mapping service to be used for the metro travel reimbursement plan by both officials and schools.

(Please refer to the sports tab above for instructions regarding the Chapter Metro Plan Center Points)
    2. Non-metro - portal to portal officials shall be reimbursed one car 55 cents per mile, two cars 41 cents per mile, or three cars 33 cents per mile (A $10 riders fee will only be paid to officials exceeding three person crews).

  2. Officials shall be paid based on the state mileage reimbursement rate in effect on August 1 of the current school year.

  3. By prior agreement between officials and school authorities, airfare may be substituted for automobile mileage fee.

  4. Each UIL chapter of each sport shall select the method of payment for travel reimbursement 30 days prior to the first contest.

Other Allowable Expenses

  1. Meals. Schools shall not pay for any meals for officials unless the distance traveled round trip from the official’s home to the game site is greater than 150 miles. If meals are paid, the amount is $15 during the regular season and $30 during playoffs.

  2. Lodging. By agreement by the officials and schools, schools may pay lodging.

  3. Ground Transportation. If prior agreement exists, schools may pay taxi fare, etc., for officials.

Limitation

No other item shall be included in payment of officials.
