January 2011 Booster Club Meeting Minutes

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Jan 10, 2011 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Clear Lake Falcon Boys Basketball Booster Club Minutes

Jan 10, 2011, Krueger Field House Gym – Clear Lake High School

In Attendance

Coach Penders
Don Wilkerson
Terry Krenek- President
Leigh-Ann Train- Sr rep/Hospitality
Sally Sugarek-Secretary
10 Parents

Agenda

  • Financial update, Concessions, & Raffle Fundraiser
  • Upcoming games and end of season events
  • Miscellaneous items

First agenda item.

Treasurer Joe Swingle was unable to attend, but Terry reported that we currently have $4400 in funds. Leigh Ann is still in need of volunteers for the concession stand.  There are a lot of openings, especially during the Varsity games where we can make the most money.  She also mentioned that we are running low on soft drinks, especially diet coke.  Apparently some team members/families never brought their assigned drinks. Several of the freshman parents are going to handle the raffle tickets:  Merita Parker, Jennifer Ellis, & Sheri Robertson.  Leigh Ann gave suggestions such as setting up a separate table behind the game entrance table to display the raffle items and generate interest & sales.  Merita & Jennifer also discussed possibly selling them outside of Kroger.  Terry said he had made ‘bunches’ of tickets that can be passed out to the players so their families can sell them, or purchase some themselves. Coach Penders will have the coaches give them out to their teams.

The drawings will take place as follows:

1st drawing – January 18th  -  Luis Scola signed basketball

2nd drawing  - February 1st  -  Calvin Murphy signed basketball

3rd drawing  -  February 15th – Earl Campbell signed photo

Tickets are $5.00 each and will remain for each drawing.

Second agenda item

Coach Penders said that the remaining home games will have some halftime entertainment… the next 2 homes games will have the Falcon Flairs performing and the following home game the Cheerleaders will perform, etc. When Varsity makes post season playoffs, the games are set up at neutral sites.  There are circumstances where other teams could play at Krueger Field House, and if so, we could make money running the concessions, but will not get much advance notice.

***February 15th will be Senior night with their parents at the game. This is the last home game and the last game of the regular season.***

We discussed the end of season banquet and Coach Penders said that late March to early April would be the best time to have it.   Don Wilkerson added that they have normally held them on Wednesday evenings in past years.  Last year there were approximately 220 in attendance and it was fairly expensive, so this year suggestions were made by several for having it in a Church banquet hall, or having it at the school in the 9th grade commons, which can be decorated to look nice. That has been done in the past and worked well.  A committee will be formed that is made up of parents of Senior players.  Rocio Durel can be contacted at the school to find out the cost and availability of using the 9th grade commons.

Pictures will be taken sometime towards the end of the season.

Additional items

Several parents of Freshmen had questions about their practice schedule.  Don Wilkerson said it is posted on the website, but Coach Penders did say the practices do fluctuate because there are 9 different teams trying to use 3 gyms, so it does change.  The game times will be the same for the rest of the season, and the sub varsity teams are expected to remain for the other games, thru the end of the Varsity game.  They also had questions regarding at which games the players are being fed meals, because they really weren’t sure.  Coach Penders said that they will be fed at the more distant games:  Dickinson, Brazoswood, and Alvin.  He would like to be able to provide food at other games, but it is not possible due to costs.

The meeting closed with Terry telling everyone to be thinking about new board members to be chosen for next year.

The meeting was adjourned and we will meet next on February 14th @ 6:30 pm in Krueger Field House Email Sally Sugarek at sssugarek@sbcglobal.net with additions or corrections to these minutes.
