Clear Lake 41 - Clear Brook 36

With this win Clear Lake makes the playoffs and will face 23 - 5A first place finisher Fort Bend Travis (29-4).

When the winning team shoots only 23.7% from the field and allows the other team 7 more offensive rebounds, you have to wonder how we managed to win.  The answer is tenacious defense, shooting timely free throws well, and the other team shot even worse than we (especially in the second half). Clear Lake has a much stronger bench than Brook but it was not as much of a factor as it usually is. Perhaps our team showed more heart and will to win also. It seems to me they did but I am not an unbiased observer.

FYI:

The three Travis players (their 3 leading scorers) suspended now for only one game, will not be available to play in the first round against Lake.

Clear Lake Falcon Boys Basketball Booster Club Minutes

Feb. 14, 2011, Krueger Field House Gym – Clear Lake High School

In Attendance

Coach Frye, Don Wilkerson, Terry Krenek- President, Leigh-Ann Train- Sr rep/Hospitality, Sally Sugarek-Secretary, 9 Parents

Agenda

  • Financial update & Concessions/ game info
  • End of Season Banquet
  • Miscellaneous items
First agenda item. The Treasurer was unable to attend the meeting so we did not get the latest financial figures. Leigh-Ann Train gave us an update regarding concessions.  We have one more night of regular season play… 2/15/2011.  She still had an opening for help needed at 4 pm. Also, she said we have a lot of Sprite remaining, but not much regular Coke.  However, everyone in attendance was in agreement that we should just sell the items we have.  If we host any playoff games at Krueger Field House, we should open concessions, but Don pointed out that if we continue in the playoffs ourselves, there could be a conflict that would make it difficult to staff the concession stand.  We must beat Creek to still have a chance to get to playoffs. It is Senior night at the Feb 15th game, & the boys & their parents should be there at 6:35pm.  It was discussed that next year it would be better to move Senior night to the next to last home game, instead of the last one.  Parents also discussed wanting to have a middle school night where the feeder intermediate school basketball teams are introduced at the Lake game. It is something that has been done in the past year or two, however, since this is the last regular season game, it will be difficult to have one this year. Coach Frye said with all that has been going on with the playoff race, they just forgot about having one this year.

Second agenda item.
The end of season basketball banquet will be held on Wednesday evening, March 30th, at La Brisa in League City.  It will be held in one of the larger rooms available to accommodate our group size, which should be in the range of 200 or so.  The players tickets are free, as well as the coaches and their wives/guests, and fans of the year + guest, as has been the case in past years also.  The price for everyone else’s tickets is still being determined, but will likely be $20 per person.  It will be a buffet style service with fajitas, etc. Don Wilkerson explained to the Freshman parents that each of the Seniors has a memory board on display that are usually made by their moms.  He also said someone normally makes a video/ or slideshow that lasts about 15 minutes and runs on a continuous loop early in the evening.  Leigh-Ann said her husband Pete has volunteered to put that together. Don will make the program for the evening’s events.  He also explained that each Coach will introduce and talk about each team and the players on them.  There was also a lot of discussion among the parents about making sure tickets are collected for each person, and how that can best be done.  The freshman parents in attendance all had some very good ideas and seem willing to help carry out some of the suggestions. It was decided that another couple of banquet planning meetings need to take place, and for anyone that wants to offer help, the 1st planning meeting will be held next Monday, 2/21/2011 at 6:30 PM at Krueger field house.  Leigh-Ann will try to have some additional information from last year’s banquet, as well as current financial figures available when that meeting occurs.   Additional itemsTerry Krenek and Coach Frye discussed the final drawing for the raffle that will be at halftime of tomorrow night’s game 2/15/2011 for the signed Earl Campbell photo. They said we are just breaking even in the raffle, and Coach Frye said it was just a last minute idea that they hoped would raise some additional money.  The money is being used to feed the boys at further away games, and other team expenditures. He said the chocolate sales this year were not as successful as last year.  The 3 on 3 tournament raises $1500-$2000 and seems to be a good way to raise money, but timing is the key to it.  Many of the other parents in attendance also suggested that if the booster club waits to solicit businesses in the fall for donations, most have already allocated their budget for other groups. They said the time to solicit them is now, January, February, March which everyone was in agreement with, but it requires parents that will volunteer to solicit those businesses.

Date of the next meeting

  • Banquet Planning Meeting February 21st
  • Next Booster Club Meeting March 7th (the 14th falls during Spring Break)
  • both meetings will be held at 6:30 PM at Krueger Field House

Clear Lake 66 - Clear Creek 53

Clear Lake 66 - Clear Creek 53

Tonight's wins by Brazoswood (over Springs), Brook (over Dickinson), and Clear Lake (over district champs Clear Creek) causes a three way tie for 3rd place (district record is 8-6 for all three teams). Brazoswood wins third place due to their two wins over Lake and their margin of victory over Brook in their one win, one loss against Brook. So Lake and Brook are tied for fourth.

The 4th place tie breaker game between Lake and Brook will be played at Clear Creek High School Friday at 7 pm.

Action photos of this game should be posted by Wednesday evening. To view game photos of this season's game, go to  http://picasaweb.google.com/falconhoops. Use the Browser's "BACK" or "BACK Arrow" to return to this website.

Clear Brook 60 - Clear Lake 51

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Feb 7, 2011 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Clear Brook 60 - Clear Lake 51

There were 6 ties and 5 lead changes in the game. The last tie was at 42 with 4:56 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Playoff picture

Although some, like myself, would say the playoff picture is now bleak, Coach Penders says not so. For the two remaining games, assume both Brook and Lake defeat Dickinson. If Brook loses at Pearland on Friday, if Lake defeats Creek next Tuesday, and if Brazoswood defeats Alvin and loses to Springs, Lake would be third with Brook and Brazoswood tied for fourth.

One thing for sure about high school basketball.... On any given night, anything is possible.
