Agenda
- Welcome & Financial update/ Fundraising
- Banquet
- Miscellaneous items
Coach Penders welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked them for attending. Leigh Ann Train conducted the meeting in the absence of Terry Krenek, (Booster Club President), who was unable to attend. She turned it over to Joe Swingle for a financial update.
Currently we have $5256.00 plus an additional $600.00 to be deposited, so we should end up with between $5800-$5900 in the account. Coach Penders also mentioned $374.83 that is from a concessions split between Lake, Brook, Creek & Springs, from the CCISD tournament, which went into the Activity Fund.
Coach also let Leigh Ann know that the form she received from the last meeting is for Daisy Day. This is an event held on campus each year where various organizations set up and staff booths. Last year the basketball program had some donated items in their booth that earned some money for the program. Coach Penders anticipates we could earn in the range of $300 for a Daisy Day booth this year too. We will just need some students and a couple of parents to work in the booth.
Coach Penders also said that all the high school basketball coaches in CCISD are trying to come up with additional ways to raise money because there have been cuts to some areas of funding by the district, and we need to find ways to try to make up for them.
Don Wilkerson also touched on the discussion in the previous meeting in regards to now being the best time to contact local businesses for sponsorships and donations for next season. It was agreed that it is at the beginning of the year when businesses normally have the money available for that, but if we wait until fall, it has already been promised out. One of the parents said it would be helpful if a list was compiled of various companies to contact so it could be split up without people overlapping in their contacts. Leigh Ann said Mario’s really wants to help us, as well as Randalls and other stores. Coach Penders also mentioned Kroger on El Camino really wants to help our program with donations of drinks, etc, but possibly even some type of financial donation. Leigh Ann reminded everyone of the sponsorship letters that are available to take to the businesses.
Second agenda item. Upcoming Banquet.
Leigh Ann said many Varsity parents have met to further organize the upcoming Banquet. It will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 6:30 pm at La Brisa Mexican Restaurant in League City. Leigh Ann, Vanita Cooper and Ann Arrington provided a budget of the costs for the banquet that come to $3677. We discussed how many free tickets are needed for players, coaches/spouses, fans of the year, etc and additional invitees, and agreed that the proposed budget should work with our available funds. (There also has to be at least $2100 set aside for the Activity Fund), but even with that, the budget was approved. They have decided on $20 per ticket, and Vanita Cooper explained that the letters will be mailed to the parents directly, and there is a tear off section for the parents to return and RSVP & indicate if their son/player, will be attending. Therefore, tickets will only be provided for the players who are attending. The parents will pay for their tickets and can make checks payable to CLFBBBC. This will enable them to keep a good records of who has paid ,etc. Vanita Cooper is still finalizing who will provide the best deals for us on cakes, flowers, etc. She already has 48 balloons from Kroger on Space Center that one of the fathers volunteered to pickup on banquet day.
Vanita also had 6 parents sign up at the meeting tonight who can help with set up, cleanup and staffing tables to check tickets. She will still need some additional volunteers because they want someone to handle arrival/ tickets for each team, as well as picking up the cakes, flowers, etc. Please contact Vanita Cooper at email: vanitacooper7@yahoo.com or on her cell# 310-213-6799.
Ann Arrington said she has 4 boxes of decorations given to us from last years Sr. parents, and said the girls basketball group is also letting us use some that they have. Leigh Ann also has some items provided from last year. Vanita said that Darwin w/ La Brisa has been very helpful and there will be plenty of food for everyone. She will verify the entrance that they want us to use at the restaurant.
Don will pick up the trophy for the Hall of Fame inductee. There is separate money that will cover the trophy from a special fund that Coach Krueger had set up. It will allow enough to cover the cost of the trophy for several years to come. Don also went over the set-up of the banquet room.
Don is also taking care of putting the programs together and Joe Swingle’s company, GulfStream Legal Group, LLC, will print the programs for us.
The players should dress in shirt and tie and slacks, or khaki pants. If they are unable to where a tie, they should still be nicely dressed! Coach Penders will get a dvd w/ team photos to the banquet committee to be used on the cakes for each team. He and Don also discussed updating names on the plaques for the special awards given. Coach said he will give out certificates for the offensive and defensive players of the year on Varsity.
The banquet committee will have one last meeting sometime during the week after spring break, date and time to be announced.
Additional items. There are playoff t-shirts for sale for $12 each. Extra shirts were ordered, so please purchase them for your players, or parents! Vanita mentioned another fundraising idea that has worked well for others. She said there are Domino pizza cards that we purchase cheaply and then sell for about $10 and they give good discounts to the card purchaser. Also Macy’s has something called ‘shop for a cause’ passes which can also be sold to help make money for the basketball program.
Pending Unassigned Action items.
1. Get a Texas flag hung in the Field House.
2. Get plaques in trophy case updated for award winners.
3. Solicit businesses for donations early in the year
Date of the next meeting: April 11, 2011 @ 6:30 pm Krueger Field House

Summer League in June
Each summer in June and sometimes in July teams representing the Lake JV and Varsity play in an 8 team summer league usually at Clear Falls High School. There is a JV division and a Varsity division. For the last two summers, Lake has had two varsity squads and one JV squad.
The games are one night each week usually on Tuesday nights in June and possibly through mid-July. There is usually a fee of $40 per player to participate. Players are selected on a first-come, first-served basis for these teams. The school coaches will announce the date for submission of player entry fees toward the end of the school year. School coaches allocate players to teams. JV teams are usually coached by Don Wilkerson.

Travis 66 - Clear Lake 62
Travis 66 - Clear Lake 62
A very entertaining basketball game. Lake played some impressive basketball and led most of the game.
55-52 was Lake's last lead with 2 minutes remaining. The game was tied at 60 with 57 seconds remaining. Too many mistakes in the last minute cost Lake the game.
