CLBBBC Meeting - Wednesday, Oct 2, 2013

Officers in attendance:  Gary Stenerson -President

 Dave Culbertson - Vice-President

Treasurer - Sharla Ostrowski

 Secretary - Joan Bolen

Gary opened  with presenting the Agenda topics:

3 on 3 Tournament

Homecoming Parade

Car Wash

Meet the Coaches Night/Spirit Merchandise ordering

Courtside Cuties

Vote

Gary also corrected the date of the 3 on 3 tournament. It will take place on October 12, not the 19th as noted on the Agenda.

Coach Penders spoke about our school hosting the CCISD Varsity tournament December 5-7. Our school is in charge of Hospitality.  We need to get vendors/sponsors such as Chick-Fil -A, Gina's and Buffalo Wild Wings to donate sandwiches and such.   We will need to provide plates and chips for the hospitality room.

The October Shootout at Clear Falls HS was a big success.  All of our teams played really well. Coach Frye added that the money made from the shootout, $600 to $700 is enough to feed all our teams for 2 games.

Regarding the 3 on 3 tournament, Coach Penders told us that the boys can get their friends from other schools to play on their teams.

Varsity is going to two out of town tournaments: Lufkin and Austin Westlake.

A tournament for Freshman B and JV light over the Christmas holidays has been added.

The tentative season schedule will be posted to the website soon.

Dave spoke about the 3 on 3 Tournament on October 12, 2013.   It includes grades 5-12.  The cost is $75.00 per team. The cost to have the tournament is $900.00 ($500.00 for Security and Janitorial Services, $400.00 for concession stand). We hope to make about $2,000.00. Volunteers are still needed for Concession Stand and referees.

Don Wilkerson said that last year some parents would have made donations at the 3 on 3 tournament but we did not have a "Donation" can.  This is something we could do this year.  He will provide the equipment needed.  The games will be 25 minutes or 20 points.  He will go over rules before tournament starts. The boys CANNOT switch teams once play has started.

Paula Lucas talked about co-ed teams. The boys could put together and coach the teams, more recreational and fun.

It was discussed that this is something we could do in the future.   If the boys are playing, they can't coach at the same time, but something to think about.

Merita Parker gave information on the Homecoming Parade.  It takes place on Wednesday, October 16.   It starts at Falcon Pass and goes to "C" lot.  Expect about 50 boys.   Sonia Graham and Christine Westby offered trucks and flatbeds.   The players will get jerseys before the Parade.  They need to bring a bag of candy, no hard candy.

We need parents to meet at Falcon Pass Elementary to decorate the trucks.

Gary talked about the Carwash on Sat. October 19.  The boys will sell at least 10 Tickets at $5.00 each.   They will return any unsold tickets and money before carwash.

Gary mentioned giving a $50.00 gift card to the boy who sells the most tickets.

The Board is going to check into this, make sure it's not in any violation of UIL rules.

They will also sell bottled water on the corner.

Holly Patrick asked if the Freshman boys are involved in these actitivies.  Coach Penders said yes, a big part.

Sharla Ostrowski gave information on "Meet the Coaches" evening.  This will take place on Tuesday, October 29.

It will be a Pot Luck Dinner, food will be divided by the basketball classes.

Events at this dinner will include:  Primary Membership Drive

Sign-up to Volunteer for various things

Order Merchandise/Spirit Items

Distribute Schedules

Parents AND Players come.  It will be main opportunity to order items.  We will have some examples of the Logo's.  We will also have T-shirts and tumblers to sell.

There were sign-up sheets to help us with this event.  Please let us know if you can help.

Look for another e-mail regarding "Meet the Coaches" night.

Kimberly Holt talked about the Courtside Cuties.   This is a group of girls who provide support and spirit for the basketball teams.  It will be similar to the "Diamond Darlings".   She said that there are several ways to do this. We could include ALL teams, Freshmen A and B, JV light and dark, plus Varsity.  OR we could just start with VARSITY to see how this is going to go.

Some of the activities involved are treat bags, decorating the lockers, attending games.

The girls could earn a patch for the Letterman Jacket if they attend a certain amount of home games, decorate lockers, and other things to be decided on later.   We would design the patch.

There would need to be an adult in the locker room with the girls.

The girls paid a $30.00 fee.  They are invited to the Banquet.   If they met the requirements, they didn't have to pay for a banquet ticket.

Kimberly said that she had 40 girls this past year for the baseball tea, only 3 girls earned a patch.

Don stated that the venue we use for the Basketball Banquet would not hold another 30 or 40 people.

It was suggested by a couple of parents to keep it small this year, Varsity only.  A mother asked who was going to help with this.

Gary said that we are just getting the idea out there. We need feedback then we will make a proposal.  This was brought on by our desire to get more support and people to the basketball games.

Don encouraged everyone to get Sponsors.  Said the success of the Website is improved by two things:

Photos

Articles about the games.

He suggested that we can get some of the students to write the articles to post on the website.

Coach Penders proposed having Michael Glass take pictures.

Kathy Sciacca offered to take pictures for free.  Kate Skol will take pictures also.

We would like more action shots of the boys!

In closing, Gary asked those in attendance to use the Agenda to vote on the things we discussed.

He reminded everyone to volunteer for upcoming events and thanked everyone for coming out.

 See Voting results below.
