Clear Lake 57 - Willowridge 43

 Game 3: Clear Lake 57 - Willowridge 43

In what could be regarded as one of their less impressive showings in this young season, the Clear Lake Falcons prevailed over a scrappy bunch in the Willowridge Eagles. Very impressive defense from our Lake boys was at times matched by Willowridge as they held Lake to only 57 points. Only 57 points! 57 points is a lot to score in a high school game but with Lake averaging 74.5 in their two previous outings some fans expected more from the Falcons. After the opening minutes Lake led throughout the game but the margin was not always comfortable as Willowridge closed the gap in the fourth quarter.

Both teams were led by outstanding coaches who had to be disappointed by their team's free throw shooting (Lake went 22 of 38 from the line). 57.9% free throw shooting will not win close ball games.

Will West led his team with 22 points (12 from free throws) while Drake Green contributed 17 and Bradley George scored 13.

Next week the Falcons face their toughest opponents so far this season in 4A state ranked Fort Bend Marshall in their house. Against Willowridge several Lake players did not play well but expect a better showing next week. The team that makes the most free throws will win this game.

Freshman Falcons B Team win Baytown Sterling Tournament

The Falcon B team bounced back from a tough loss at Houston Lamar with two very impressive wins over MacArthur High School and the host team to take the Baytown Sterling Tournament championship. Each win featured the tough defense that Lake is known for along with solid ball handling and timely shooting.  It was clear the Falcons beat two very good teams since MacArthur went on to win the third place game decisively.  If the Falcons continue to play close games against good competition, they will be battle tested when district games begin next month.  Their next game is on Tuesday at 6PM at Willowridge High School

First Round  - Clear Lake 40    MacArthur 34

In the first round, Lake ground out a victory against a talented MacArthur team.  The game featured two very tough defenses with Lake using a stifling defense to establish a small 4 point lead at half-time and preserve it throughout the second half.

The freshmen were led by Matthew Tamburello’s 12 points including 2 for 6 on three pointers.  David Boyd added 14 rebounds and 4 steals to help limit second chance opportunities.  Ryan Moore shot 3 for 5 from the field including a three pointer and was 1 for 1 from the free throw line.  In all, seven Falcons scored, and all contributed to a very impressive win.

Finals – Clear Lake 59   Baytown Sterling 45

The freshman had their best performance of the season in their first tournament finals.   They played a very composed and efficient game against the relentless Sterling pressure to establish a nine point halftime lead.  In the second half, they consistently broke the Sterling full court press to extend the lead and hang on for a comfortable victory. The Falcons had a very impressive 45% field goal percentage including 40% on three pointers in a very good all around effort.

The team was paced by an outstanding game by Matthew Tamburello who contributed 21 points on 8 for 16 shooting including 5 for 9 from behind the arc.  David Boyd added 12 points as, once again, seven Falcons scored.
