Freshman B Team Crushes La Porte 76-22

The Freshman B Team got their first home win and raised their record to 6-2 with a dominant performance against the La Porte Bulldogs. They started off fast with ten early points from Matthew Tamburello to take a 10-3 lead.   After La Porte took advantage of a Lake dry spell to get back to a 10 – 10 tie, Lake employed a consistent pressure defense to hold the Bulldogs to only five more field goals the rest of the game.    On offense, Lake featured a strong inside game scoring 66 of the final 78 points including 25 of their 32 field goals from the paint.

Rene Otero was unstoppable as he went seven for eight from the field and led the team with a dominant second quarter as the Falcons pulled away.   Matthew Tamburello added 16 points including two for four from behind the arc that raised his three point percentage for the season to an impressive 44%.  Trajan Marsh played well from the point with seven points, five assists, and a memorable spinning drive and dish to Tim Dyball.

The B team is next in action at 4 PM on Tuesday, December 17th as the Falcons host the Texas City Stingarees.

Clear Lake 78 - La Porte 68

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Dec 10, 2013 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Clear Lake 78 - La Porte 68 Tuesday night Clear Lake hosted a very game La Porte Bulldogs team. La Porte proved to be a worthy adversary as they kept the game close and led at times. At the half it was Lake up by 2 38-36. Once again Lake's strong third quarter showing made a difference as they widened the gap to 61-48 to close the 3rd period. The game felt close until the last 6 minutes.

Long time Clear Lake fan Joe Chambliss believes Lake will make their free throws when they have to. He was certainly correct this outing as strong free throw shooting by Lake made all the difference. Will West went 11 of 12 from the line as the Falcons shot 22 of 29 from the stripe while the Dogs scored 9 of 11 from free throws - a difference of 13 points from free throws (Lake won by 10).

In a close ball game free throws make all the difference just as they did in this game. Let's hope the Falcons continue to do well from the line.

Scoring by Individual

Clear Lake Basketball Heritage

CLEAR LAKE BASKETBALL HERITAGE

Clear Lake High School is home to legendary coach Bill Krueger who retired in 1996 as the "winningest" high school basketball coach in the nation. In addition, Clear Lake's second head coach, Lynn McDonald, was generally acknowledged as one of the top 5A coaches in the state and was selected as the most outstanding 5A coach in Texas in 2007 from over 230 5A coaches. Coach McDonald's teams made it to the playoffs every year he was the head coach (13 consecutive years).

See the "Coach Profiles" Page on the menu above for more on these outstanding coaches.

The Tradition Continues
Clear Lake's current head coach, Tommy Penders, is a third generation basketball coach with success reaching back to the four state championships his grandfather won (not in Texas). Tommy came to us in 2009 from Angleton High School where he took his team to the State Tournament in 2006.

In 2015 Tommy and his staff took Clear Lake all the way to the 6A state finals where Clear Lake lost by 2 at the buzzer in one of the greatest games in state tournament history.  Tommy received the honor of being selected the 2015 Texas State Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools.
