Lake was up by 14 at the half and it was apparent who should win. It was not an easy victory but almost was. Fulton Brisco had a very good game offensively going 7 for 7 from the field.Brisco's 16 points was a career high for him.

Individual Scoring: Fulton Brisco 16 (7 of 7 from the field), Kendrell Thompson 16, RJ Turner 13, Jimmy Witten 10,

Clear Lake 78 - Galveston Ball 48

First District Ball Game

At the opening tipoff Jimmy Witten prevailed to enabled Christian Enriquez to race for a lay-up to start the game off right. This was Christian’s first time to score the opening basket of a varsity game and his first start on the varsity level this season. The game stayed close for the first five minutes of the quarter with the score at 9 to 7 in Lake’s favor before Lake began to pull away and never look back. With 1:40 remaining in the quarter Jimmy Witten, at the high post position, passed out to Kendrell for Thompson’s second trey of the quarter to bring the score to 15 to 9. Lake’s man-to-man defense was effective on the Tors as they struggled to play team ball. The difference in the talent between the two teams showed early and Clear Lake continued to outshine their opponents. With 30 seconds remaining in the period Armie Lewis scored on an unassisted lay-up to bring it to 21-13. A steal and a lay-up by Kendrell closed the quarter out at 23-15. Kendrell and Armie each had 8 points for the first quarter.

With 7:18 remaining in the second quarter a foul from behind on Armie Lewis as he raced toward the goal with the ball provides an opportunity for a rules clarification. As of this season a foul by the defender from behind as the offensive player advances toward the goal shall be deemed an intentional foul. This results in two free throws awarded and possession of the ball. Don’t be surprised if some refs neglect the new ruling until they get used to it. At the 5:17 mark Kendrell nailed another three pointer to make it 28-17. Thompson was 4 for 4 from three point land for the outing and 5 of 7 from inside the arc. With one miss coming on a foul, Clear Lake’s leading scorer really only missed one shot in the game. Clear Lake’s effective defense caused a long dry spell in scoring for the Tors in the quarter. At the half it was 39 to 25, Lake up by 14.

In the first 15 seconds of the third quarter Armie Lewis drove to the basket for an unassisted lay-up to bring it to 41-25. The handwriting was now clearly on the wall as Lewis racked up another nine points in the quarter and Thompson raked in another 8 on perfect shooting for the period. The quarter ended at 62 to 36.

In the fourth quarter Andrew Gorie, along with five rebounds in the quarter, contributed 6 points on 3 for 3 shooting and Anthony Bilcic nailed a pair of treys for another 6 as the Falcons had their way with the frustrated Galveston Ball squad. A basket by Fulton Brisco and one by Kendrell Thompson rounded out an easy victory. The final score was 78 to 48. It could have been an even larger margin except for the benevolence of the Falcons.

For the trivia buffs, scoring for the Falcons was identical in each half: 23 points scored in the first and third quarters and 16 points scored in the second and fourth quarters.

Only once in the last fifteen or twenty years have the Clear Lake Falcons outscored a Galveston Ball team by a score approaching thirty points. This game was a good way to head toward Christmas and the upcoming tournament in San Diego. For the first time in memory, a 24-5A District ball game was played in December and even before Christmas.

FYI:
There will be an article provided for each of the four out of town tournament games and each district game.
Game pictures can be found on the FALCONS ON THE COURT Page.
