Senator Get Even More "Famous"

As if one Amos in the family wasn't enough, the Senator now have two of them. The team announced today the signing of Rick Amos, Dale's older brother.
"You know we are big on family here," said GM Nick Frese, "So I'm always happy to bring brothers -- sisters, aunts, fathers, nieces, uncles, whatever -- into the Senator fold."
The elder Amos will be a big help to the Nats in filling the shoes of injured catcher Dan Laudisio, as Rick is an experienced catcher.
"Rick hasn't played in a few years," said Frese, "But we know he has good athletic ability...and good bloodlines, of course. We'll bring him along slowly and let him get his feet wet in the game again. I expect that within in few weeks he'll be motoring on all cylinders. Plus, we figured he'll motivate his brother to show off a little more, too -- nothing better than a little sibling rivalry to kick-start a season!"
The addition of another experienced catcher is a nice coup for Frese. With veterans Miles Reader and Chris Lawrence already around, the club is now very, very deep at this critical position.
"Write it down: Miles WILL be back there behind the dish on opening day, and we are extremely happy with what he has done in the pre-season," Frese stated. "But it will be good to be able to use Miles in the other spots as well -- his flexibilty really helps the club. And this move will also help us keep Chris doing the things that will help the team most -- like playing shortstop and closing games. We'll work Rick in for a few innings on the 23rd, and hopefully he'll get more and more work back there as the season progresses."
The 46-year-old Amos will wear #44 for the Senators during the 2006 campaign. He last played in 1996 for the Somers Point Seminoles of the US Over 30 league.
Surprise, Surprise: Jim Toth is a Senator (again!)

Toth Rejoins Senators for 2006
In an unexpected last-minute roster move, the Washington Township Senators 38+ have signed former Senator Jim Toth for the 2006 season. Terms were not announced.
Toth, who played with the Delco Astros last year, was looking for an MSBL home and some extra ABs, and the injury to Danny Laudisio provided the need in Washington Township.
"Jim is a veteran bat we hope will help fill the void left by Danny's injury," GM Nick Frese said. "And again, we're dealing with a guy who has already worn Senator red, who knows our players, and who is committed to winning baseball. I'm surprised we were lucky enough to be able to grab Jim at this late juncture."
The slimmed-down Toth -- 220 lbs. at last weigh-in -- is expected to work out of the #6 or #5 hole for the Nats, and he could see some time at first base defensively, spelling Frank Izzi.
"I fell much better about our depth and offense with Jim on the squad," Frese said. "With the added talent in this division, you have to keep on working to stay competitive. And Jim and (recently added hurler) Billy Alvaro will do just that for us."
Toth is expected to attend approximately half the Senators games in 2006.
