Izzi, Pitchers Lead Nats Over Reds 13-5

Posted by N Frese at Apr 30, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Nice win Sunday, as the Senators took it to the Cinnaminson Reds by a 13-5 score. Frank Izzi picked up where he left off last year, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, and Miles Reader and Chris Lawrence chipped in with two hits and three RBI each. The pitching staff was just terrific, as Gene Michalski, Rich Kulikowski, Billy Alvaro, John DiPietro and Dale Amos allowed just a single earned run and walked ZERO, NADA, ZILCH batters! Next up: we travel to Wesley Bishop in Moorestown to face the pitching rich Moorestown Marlins. John DiPietro gets the starting nod. The tenative lineup: 1. Alessandrini-CF
2. Amos-LF
3. McAllister-3B
4. Izzi-1B
5. Bevenour-EH/LF
6. Reader-C/OF
7. Lawrence-SS
8. Frese-EH
9. Amos-EH/C
10. Trotman-2B
11. Wood-RF
I will do my best to get everyone else in there for sure. Rose will take 2B innings, and Kulikowski will play some OF. And I'll try to get you guys some ABs as well if all goes as planned. John will go as deep as necessary, and I will use the rest of the pitching as needed. I would love to get ALL of you in there to throw a little if at all possible. But that, of course, is situational. As always, lineups and pitching are subject to change due to availability, injuries, and the whims of the manager. Batting practice Thursday night around 6:15 PM at the varsity batting cage, as usual.image

Horner Debut is Debutiful

Posted by N Frese at Apr 24, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Did you know that Ed Horner made his Senator debut as a pitcher on April 9, 2006? And did you know that Mr. Horner pitched three innings and struck out a record NINE batters in his first work as a Senator? Not too shabby!

Rain Washes Out Opener; Nats Face Reds Next

Posted by N Frese at Apr 23, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Well, Mother Nature didn't like us very much yesterday. With all that rain, there was no chance to get any ballgames in. In fact, the entire league was rained out. Hence, we face the Reds this Sunday, again at home. Pitching plans are as follows: Innings 1-2 Gene Michalski Innings 3-4 Rich Kulikowski Innings 5-6 Bill Alvaro Innings 7-8 John DiPietro Inning 9 Dale Amos As always, these pitching plans and the lineup below are subject to change without notice based on availability, game situations, and the whims of the manager. The tentative lineup: 1. Alessandrini-CF
2. Lawrence-SS
3. D. Amos-LF
4. Izzi-1B
5. Bevenour-3B/EH
6. Reader-C/EH
7. Toth-EH/3B
8. Frese-EH
9. R. Amos-EH/C
10. Rose-EH/2B
11. Trotman-2B
12. Wood-RF
We hit Thursday night at the varsity batting cage.
There was Gerry Haggerty. John Fitzgerald. Mike Daly. Mark Alessandrini (one inning). And now Rich Kulikowski? Alert the media: the Washington Township Senators may have just signed only the fourth pitcher in team history to toss the rock from the left side. A press conference has been scheduled for Friday at noon, at which time team GM Nick Frese is expected to announce the signing of Rich Kulikowski, a left-handed hurler. Kulikowski is a Washington Township product who played with current Senators Bill Alvaro and Jim McAllister. If signed, he would be the fifth lefty ever to pitch for the squad, and only the second after Haggerty who could see regular hill work. Frese would not confirm the signing, but certainly did give some clues. "Would I like to sign a lefty like Rich?'", Frese opined, "Damn straight! It's been too long since we've had a guy like that on the staff. And Rich possesses a wide array of pitches, and can throw them all for strikes." It is believed that the 40-year-old Kulikowski and his agent are trying to hash out final details on the deal that would bring him to Washington Township. His addition would continue a Senator youth movement that began last year with the signings of McAllister and Dale Amos. Additionally, Kulikowski is a lefty hitter who can play some outfield. "You can never have enough pitching in this league," Frese stated, "And I never say 'no' to good mound talent, or good talent period. But I have nothing solid to report to you at this time." If the Nats are able to complete the deal and ink Kulikowski, it is believed he would be available to pitch on opening day against the Marlton Red Sox. The signing would certainly signal an end to all roster movement, which would seem to leave Joe Leo out of the Senator picture for 2006.
