Washington Township Senators 35+

Well, you begin with a slow offensive start, mix in a few walks, some loose defense, some utter strangeness, and some off-the-wall umpiring, and you have yourself a nice recipe for a loss. And so it was, as the Senators fell to the Moorestown Marlins by a 12-11 score. No Senator could manage more than one hit off Marlin pitching, though everyone in the lineup save one did get a single safety. Next up is a Mother's Day road trip to the friendly, but distant, confines of Patty Bowker Field to face the Tigers. John DiPietro will have the starting nod, and I will use the bullpen as needed. I have been told that Ken Bevenour, Dale Amos, and Bill Alvaro will not be there Sunday. If anyone else is not coming, I need to know as soon as possible. The tentative lineup: 1. Alessandrini-CF

The Senators first MVP in the year 2002 was catcher Dan Laudisio. Danny has a stellar year defensively, and hit a lusty .341 with 15 hits and an On-Base Percentage of .383. He also added five stolen bases to the mixture.

The 2003 Senator Most Valuable Player was shortstop Joe Santone. Big Six pounded it out at a .365 clip with a .519 Slugging Percentage and a .431 On-Base Percentage. He added eight RBI, five doubles and four stolen bases, and played the best shortstop in the league.

For the second consecutive season, shortstop Joe Santone was named Senator Team MVP. Joey batting .381, pounded three home runs and two doubles, and had a then team record 18 RBI. He also stole four bases and again played great defense at short.

The Senator MVP for 2005 was first baseman Frank Izzi. Despite being hampered by a pulled groin all year long, and by a gimpy knee in the latter stages of the season, all the big lefty did was bat .545 with a team record 20 RBI and six doubles. His On-Base Percentage was .592, and his Slugging Percentage was .727. This was one of those rare seasons when you just KNEW this guy was going to get a hit when one was needed. And that's how you win championships!
