Heartbreak!

After winning at Mt. Miguel 6-0 on goals by LISA MIX, COURTNEY CLEAVES, JANEL SANCHEZ, ALI MENDOZA, BECCA SANDERS, and JILL FEINBERG, the Cougars traveled to Helix for their usual war against the Highlanders. The Cougars defense led by BECCA SANDERS, DELCIE THANAKCHAN, JOHANNA SCHAFFER, and JANEL SANCHEZ.dominated for the first 70 minutes of the game shutting out Helix and starting the offense with great service to forwards LISA MIX, AMANDA ROBBINS, and JILL FEINBERG. But the Helix defense playing the off-side trap stymied the Cougars time and time again on offside calls. Finally in the 70th minutes, JOHANNA SCHAFFER collected a loose ball off LISA MIX's throw in, beat a Helix defender and placed the ball into the back of the net to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the game. With the defense playing at it's best, a Cougar win seemed likely, but Helix refused to lose, and with 5 minutes left in the game, scored to tie the game; and then quickly followed with an another goal with minutes left that left  the Cougars stunned. Coach Charlie Cleaves stated, "My stomach is sick, the girls played an incredible game, and for this to happen to them, is unbearable. The pain of this loss can never go away, we must never forgot it, we must use it as reminder that the game is never over, until the final whistle. We must  figure out a way to win these big games. Hopefully we can. Valhalla is coming Wednesday!!"

The potential has always been there. A glimpse here, a glimpse there. But tonight was different, as sophomore ADELINA MARTINEZ scored a goal and put on a show displaying her incredible dribbling and crossing skills, as the Cougars beat visiting Monte Vista 3-1.
