Cougars stumble against Horizon.

Posted by Charlie Cleaves at Dec 2, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
With the young Cougars opening up against Horizon in the Barons Tournament and of the best players in the County Senior Hannah Waggoner, the Cougars knew they would have to score some goals to match the powerful Horizon Squad. And for 65 minutes the Cougars played even. Despite going into halftime down 2-0, the Cougars came out for the second half fired up and scored to make 2-1 when MIA JACKSON lined a bullet from the right side through the box that a sliding MELISSA SAUNDERS knocked in for the first goal of her Varsity Career. With momentum on their side, the Cougars pounded the final third of the field, but the Horizon defense would deny any shooting opportunities for the Cougars and with 15 minutes left, Waggoner displayed her brilliant dribbling ability beating the Cougars defense and chipping Cougar keeper SUMMER BLAND to burst the Cougars bubble. Horizon added two more for 5-1 win. Next up Mission Hills!

The JV team beat La Costa Canyon 4-0 on four goals by PAIGE NEVILLE giving her 10 goals in 3 games and her second 4 goal game. After the game, Varsity Coach Charlie Cleaves called Paige at home and informed her that she would be called up to Varsity for the Mission Hills game, and stated that "Paige is the fastest player in our program and has demonstrated an ability to score goals, which we need right now with some of the injures we have. I believe that she will give us the ability to stretch the field and give us another weapon up top, especially on the Mission Hills turf field."image

Posted by Charlie Cleaves at Nov 30, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Still trying to find themselves, the Cougars struggled to find the net throughout the first half, despite dominating the game. With the score 0-0 with 25 minutes left, Senior Captain Amy Hendel  lofted a 30 yard pass to Chelsea Jenner who one timed it into the back of the net for the winner. Ten minutes later, Emily Monfort, playing forward beat several defenders and hit a bullet that the Mar Vista Keeper saved, but deflected to a waiting Chelsea Jenner who knocked it into the empty net for her second goal. The defense led by Seniors Alyssa Llanos and Amy Hendel, Juniors Holly Moody and Freshman Taylor Hartz helped Hilary Gastrich and Summer Bland pick up the second shutout of the young season.

In the JV Game, the Cougars led by goals from Kayla Mollon, Paige Neville, Caitlin O'hea and Megan Meyer sent the girls into halftime 4-0. In the second half, the Cougars exploded for 9 unanwsered goals with Jasmine Bell netting two, Hannah Rost two. Brittany LaFlam two, and Megan Meyer, Paige Neville, Megan Sealey adding goals. Anchoring the shutout were Lauren Radice and Armadine Bahro.

Next up the Barons Tournament!

In the JV game, Paige Neville had four goals and Emily Steinberg added a hat-trick as the Cougars dominated San Marcos 11-0 in their opener.
