X-mas Party at Box Seats a HUGE Success!!!

Posted by Ruben Costa at Dec 9, 2004 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Box Seats on River St., Woonsocket, was again the the location of the best Christmas Party in the Blackstone Valley area. It was held this past Thursday, December 16th. The Sentinels and other sponsors have helped with this event for the last few years and have done a great job helping out for this great cause. This was the 6th year the event has occured. It started as a small party with the hopes to raise a few bucks for Woonsocket's favorite charity, The Milk Fund. Last year the event raised over $3000 in one evening! This year, we met our goal of $1500 and are nearing in on the $1800 point. The Sentinel Cheerleaders, headed by Captain Lynn Palin, looked fantastic and did a wonderful job raising money for the event. They even presented Ruben Costa with and "Honorary" Cheerleader Certificate as well as the "Cheerleader's Cheerleader". Does this mean that former LB Costa #59 is going to be putting on a skirt instead of a Coaches Shirt? Only if All-Star QB, Roy Dickerson does the same. The answer is ...NO! There was great door prizes, free food, drink specials, and a sports auction! more to follow: The Woonsocket Sentinels and Box Seats sponsor the event.

"AA" All-Star Game proves to be a big "HIT"

Posted by Ruben Costa at Dec 4, 2004 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The 2004 "AA" All-Star Game proved to be probally the best ALL-STAR Game ever!!! The event was called "FIRST CLASS" by Commissioner, Tom Torrisi. He staed that "This is how our athletes should be recognized after a long hard season". The Continental Division beat the Pioneer Division 34-6. The Sentinels, being part of the Continental Squad, really shined with big plays by their athletes. QB, Roy Dickerson, #3 was voted MVP of the game by ON-Radio and the NEFL. His stella performance dierectly accounted for 2 TD's. 1 rushing/ 1 passing. Protecting Dickerson was Team Capt. Pat Kelley #70. TE, Billy Jacobo #81 had an outstanding performance. He had numerous cathches with NO dropped balls. His YAC was nearly 80 yds and almost broke into the end-zone. He was stopped on the 2 yd. line. The Defensive unit really stepped up by the hard hitting play of Brian Blackman, #26, Dean Rovedo, #8, and Jim Kugel #62. Other than Dickerson, the Sentinel All-Stars had never played in an All-Star game. Ken Marcotte, #63 and Axel Hernandez #2 had limited play time due to injuries but made an impact when they were part of the game. The Sentinels were recognized by their continuous efforts in helping the community by bringing first class entertainment and aiding numerous charities. Ruben Costa, the teams Coach and former All-Star LB, and NEFL Commissioner Torrisi received presentations from the City of Woonsocket and the State of Rhode Island. Costa was presented the "Key to the City" by the mayor's office. This is one the highest forms of recognition for achievement a person can receive from the city, in terms of formal presentations. The game was aired live on 0N-1240 radio and televised state wide on Cox Cable-vision. Paul Jacob Video provided first class video coverage. The final amount raised for the Milk Fund will calculated and posted at a later date. Keep Yourself posted as to the happenings of the Sentinels!!!
