Rarely are the fans disappointed when the Cobalts and 'Toppers take the field together. And Friday night was just another Classic Battle between two of the top teams in Southwest Ohio. TR O'Brien throws a 3 hitter and goes the distance in one of the guttiest pitched games in the Cobalts' 15 year history. He outlasts the "young gun" Nate Bouldin (4 hitter) in a Wood Bat struggle for the ages. For 10 plus years TR has been the Cobalts' Ice Man in big game after big game! Solid baseball, cold beverages, and "Victory" 3AM White Castles were all part of a very nice Friday night as the Cobalts improved to 15-5 on the season. For the first time in this 2003 Campaign, the Cobalts put a straight 7 innings of solid baseball together and beat a very tough Mt. Saint Joseph college team Wednesday night. Paul Krause continues his return to dominance in Cincinnati by going all 7, giving up only 5 hits, one walk, and 13 strikeouts. Timely hitting by Joe Spriggs (2 RBI), Mike Harris (3-3), Doug Michelsen, Frank Arnold, and Steve Stigler "sparked" the Cobalt engine for the Win moving to 14-5 on the season. CoBALTS Struggle with Last-Inning Losses

Posted by Mark Dietz at Jun 2, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Allowing the Suds, Hilltoppers and Bulls to come from behind in last inning rallies, the Cobalt's fast start has turned sour. Falling to an overall record of 11-5, the Cobalts have lost their National Ranking. On the brighter side, a late night, extra inning Win versus the Amelia Panthers showed some of the old CoBALT guts. Paul Krause struck out 16 in going all 8 innings and the bats came alive behind Nick Frisch's lead-off double in the 8th. On defense, Bo Stineman made the "Catch of the Decade" while diving into the dugout fence head-first and stifling a Panther rally in the 7th.
