Cobalts NABF Run Ends After Rain Delay

Posted by Mark Dietz at Aug 9, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Yourkville outlasted the Coabalts Saturday 8-7 after a 2 1/2 hour rain delay that spoiled a great start by veteran starter, Vic Carreon. With the score 1-1 into the 5th inning, the skies opened up and dumped on Hille Field. After the delay, Yorkville rallied for 5, two-out runs before Steve Stigler stopped the bleeding. Todd Hiler (3-4) and Doug Michelsen (4-5) refused to quit and hit two bombs in two straight at bats keeping the Cobalts close enough for a 9th inning rally that just fell short. The AABC/NABF Cobalts' season has ended with a 27-15 record. Thanks to ALL Players, Fans, and Family Members who supported the Cobalts this season. The 2003 Roy Hobbs Campaign will kick back into gear in September with "Best of Ohio" Tournaments and the World Series in Ft. Myers (Nov 1 thru 9). image
Pinning the first loss on the Cobalts in the NABF were this year's Cobalt nemesis, the Blue Note Stogies. Danny Bell allowed only 5 hits in 9 innings as the Cobalts fell 6-0. Nick Frisch had 2 of the 5 Cobalt hits but few other highlights to report (other than Jeff "Scrotum" Dietz's return to form in relief). Back at it tonight as the Final 4 of the NABF face off at 6:30, Roselawn. Cobalts versus Logan/Yorkville wearing Blue.

Cobalts Win First 2 in NABF Regional

Posted by Mark Dietz at Aug 6, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Advancing to a re-match with the Blue Note Stogies, the Cobalts defeated the Falcons 7-0 behind power surges fron John Rubel (2 Homers) and Tim Klanke (1 Homer, 2 doubles). Dave Bauer and Tony Aichell combined for the shutout. In the second Win, the Cobalts squandered numerous big inning opportunities via the usual base-running "prowess." Tim Klanke and Joe Spriggs came up with the timely hitting and Shannon Morgan pitched his best game in two years going the distance against defending NABF Champs, Montgomery Inn. The 2-1 victory takes the Cobalt overall 2003 record to 27-14. Next: Thursday, 6:30 at Roselawn wearing Gold image
The Cobalts advance to the AABC State Semis with a 3-2 Win over Yorkville. The tight game was highlighted by unbelievable defensive plays for both teams. For the Cobalts, outfielders Nick Frisch and Aaron Schweitzer robbed several extra-base hits. John Rubel was a "wall" behind the plate supporting the strong pitching performances from both Dan Reineke and winner Shannon Morgan. Offensively, the 'Balts started slow again. A few highlights were: Nick Frisch's two base hits. One that led to an exciting steal of home to plate. And the seventh inning rally to get the Win which was started by Joe Spriggs Monster's base hit, Bo's sac bunt, and John Rubel's solid "walk-off" base hit to end the game. Next up: Stogies, 6:30 Roselawn, wear Gold image

Cobalts Let One Slip Away 3-2

Posted by Mark Dietz at Jul 22, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
An extremely hard fought battle had the Cobalts coming up just short in Game 2 of the AABC State. Complete-game pitcher TR O'Brien gave up only 3 hits and deserved better than the 4 hits mustered by the anemic Cobalt wood bats. Twice, the Cobalts squanderd bases loaded opportunities including the bottom of the 7th inning. Hats off to the 'Toppers who took advantage of all that was given to them. Three of the four Games this year versus the Hilltoppers have been decided by one run, either way. Next up: Yorkville (Logan) Wednesday 6:30, Roselawn- wear Blue/grey Rocky V versus Toppers could take place as early as Friday night!image
