Paully Gets the Win and the Save vs. Reds

Posted by Mark Dietz at Aug 17, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The dry Ohio weather has delayed the Sweetcorn crop much to the delight of the Cobalts... Paully "Sweetcorn" Krause was dominant again throwing 3 scoreless innings to start the game and then came back in the 7th to shut down a game-threatening, bases loaded rally to get the Save. Vic Carreon threw well in middle relief but a few bad bounces and an oxygen shortage created the need for Paully to save the day. Boo and Ike Browning continued their hot hitting in the 9-6 victory for the Cobalts. After the game, Deuce (02) Hock entertained the late night crowd at Bosley's singing "something hot" Next up: Suds at Midland, Sunday 9:30 AM (wear gold)image

THE GIUSTE Carries Cobalts Over Bulls 15-10

Posted by Mark Dietz at Aug 10, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Jason Giuste (4-4 with 4 RBIs) capped several Cobalt rallies with clutch hitting to give the Cobalts a badly needed lift. TR O'Brien also added a little mustard to the dog with a 4-4 night and his first home run since 1993 thus giving the Cobalt faithful another 12 years of hearing about his hitting for power. Paul Krause went the distance despite not being helped by several key errors. Paully also went 2-2 with 2 RBIs. Also of note was the way Jason The Giuste rounded first heading to second with his Finger Pistol aiming at the struggling Monster in the dugout...hmmmmm! Next up: Astros at Glen Este HS Sunday 9:30 AM (wear gold).image

Red Sox Take Cobalts...Again

Posted by Mark Dietz at Aug 7, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Red Sox came to play all 3 times this year and rudely handed the Cobalts 3 losses. Steve Beiser humped it for the Sox giving them a quality 7 innings despite having a sore arm. Cobalts were once again without a starting pitcher at the field (a chronic issue in '05). Overall, the Cobalts stand at 12-10 on the season...not a banner year for the boys - or for Coach, who gets an "F" on roster management and player committment.image
Stretching themselves into a 2 Game Win Streak, the Cobalts brought out a few of the Oldie but Goodies in an 11-1 league game victory over the Rangers. TR O'Brien shocked the joint by once again climbing the hill. He went 3 scoreless (also added a smash RBI double). Then ol' Sweetcorn Paully Krause finished up in a 5 inning quickie and hit the walk-off Sizzler (1b) to right. The Cobalt bats were hot again as attendance was strong for a second straight game. Mike Hatfield went deep twice (3rd in 2 games), Dougy Michelsen hit a low-flying cruise missile over the left fence for his 5th HR of the season. Not to be outdone, Tom Taylor drove an HR to right center and Boo went 3-3 with two 2Bs. Next up: Sunday vs. Red Sox at McNick 10AMimage
