Jeff Saunders threw a 9 inning, 7 hit, complete game shutout against the previously hot-hitting Cobalts. The Cobalt loss forces a second "Winner Take All" Championship Game this Wednesday night at Roselawn Park, 6:30 PM (wear gold). The "chirping" on and off the field reached a new level as the Cobalts and Suds locked horns in a typical hard-fought battle. Shannon Morgan deserved better as 3 Unearned, first inning runs were all that was given up. Boo and Spriggs Monster each had 2 hits but Saunders continually threw out of early jams to stifle the Cobalt bats. Championship on the line Wednesday night...Bring it!image
The Cobalts advance to the Southwest Ohio Roy Hobbs Championship round after a convincing 15-7 victory over the previously unbeaten Cincinnati Suds. (Frank) Arnold once again has "gone wild" and went deep with bases juiced to get the Cobalts off to a 4-0 lead. Mike Wagner followed with a 3-run bomb of his own while throwing 176 pitches in a hard fought Win. Battling out of jams all night, Wags humped it when he needed it. TR O'Brien came in to close the door earning a Save going 2 1/3 of great work depsite the obvious body discomfort (or just bad pooh cramps). Tom Taylor also went extra large with a "seal-the-deal" homer in the top of the 9th. Stiggy, Bo, Monster, and Daddy Hat all had multiple hits with doubles and RBIs aplenty. The Win gives the Cobalts several days off while the bottom bracket teams (all with 1 loss) battle for the chance to play the Cobalts in the Championship. Cobalts need only 1 victory (in two potential games) to earn another jewel in their crown. Championship: Sunday, September 25. Great Game 'Balts !!!image
The Cobalts advance to the Winners Bracket Finals (versus Suds Weds. night) beating the Astros 20-7 on Sunday. The Cobalts had 21 hits and rode Keith Becker and Shannon Morgan's arms to the victory. Boo was Band Leader going 5-5 with 2 HRs. Frank Arnold also went large going 2-3, Captain Bo was 4-5, and Mike "Daddy" Hat(field) was 3-4 with 3 RBI's. The Win takes the Cobalts into Wednesday night's game versus the also undefeated Suds in a key game of the two-and-out Southwest Ohio Tournament. TWIB Note of the game: Keith "Warrior" Becker is OK after taking a direct shot to the "cap" while not-so-nimbly leaping over a ground ball on the basepath...ouch! but funny beyond description.imageimage
The Cobalt Army showed up and Paully's "Aarrmm Felt Fine" as the Cobalts advanced in the Southwest Ohio Roy Hobbs Tournament. After giving up a lead-off home run, Paully settled in for a nice nights work giving up only 5 hits in 7 2/3 innings and striking out 11. Wags finished up - buckling his own knees during warm ups then whiffing the stunned batter. Tom Taylor and Dougy Michelsen each had doubles and 2 hits each. Frank Arnold caught one heck of a game. Other Highlights: * Scrote Dietz passed Q-Jones for 6th place on the All Time Cobalt Steals list. * Old Cobalt Staff Aces Mick and Diesel were in the house antagonizing Coach. * TR (aka "RBI Machine") was seen chugging a PBR after the game. NEXT UP: Sunday (9/11) versus the Astros at 9:30 AM, Glen Este High School (wear gold)image

"Jumbo" Infield Helps Cobalts Over Rangers 17-5

Posted by Mark Dietz at Aug 28, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Cincinnati Cobalts brought out the Jumbo Package Sunday morning to finish the 2005 Regular Season with a victory over the Rangers 17-5. Keith Becker took the hill and got the win after striking out 11 batters and giving up only 1 earned run. El Vic-a-tor finished with an inning of only 1 unearned run. The Jumbo Package was officially the heaviest infield ever recorded in Semi Pro Baseball. Over 1,200 pounds of Cobalt Flesh blocked-up the infield including Spriggs Monster (3b), Boo (2b), Coach (1b), and Becker (P). Let's just say Dougy's 180 lbs. at shortstop looked anorexic. The Big Kids also contributed with the sticks: Boo went 3-3 (HR, 3 RBIs) Monster went 4-5 (2 doubles, 3 RBIs) Coach went 1-2 (2 sacs, 2 RBIs, 1 Sizzler) Playoffs begin after Labor Day...Gear up!image
