Dog Days Bite Cobalts

Posted by Mark Dietz at Jul 18, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
In Thursday late night action, the Bulldogs of Cincinnati out hustled, out ran, out chirped and chattered their way to a 3-2 victory over the Cobalts. Cobalt bats were squelched by a another kid several birthdays away from legal Natural Lites. Cobalts played like a dog despite Keith Becker throwing a 3 hitter. The loss leaves the Cobalts at 24-6 on the seasonimage
Shannon Morgan once again proved his incredible ability to hump it up in big games by going all 9 innings in a 5-3 Cobalt victory. This is Morgan's second victory of the season over the tough Cincinnati Suds team. The Cobalts' bats were working it deep on this day as 3 HRs accounted for all 5 Cobalt runs. Jess Bechard got things going with a solo BOMB that might still be in orbit. Then Ricardo Ayala went deep in the 4th with another solo shot. The huge hit of the game came in the 9th with the scored tied at 2-2 and Tom Taylor drove one deep over the left field fence to give the Cobalts a 3 run lead. Then Morgan dug deep and talked Coach into letting him finish...which he did in usual fashion. Cobalts are now 24-5 on the season with a tough stretch of games coming up as CRC ball heats up.image
Mikey Taylor (Lit'l T) looked strong in 6 innings of CRC work Friday night. Giving up just one run and a handful of hits, he kept the Devil Dogs off balance all night with the help of his battery-mate Shannon Morgan. The offense was helped by several key Devil Dog miscues but Glen Deuce Hock stayed hot (2-2) and Mike Hatfield coerced a couple RBIs to help the Cobalts cruise to a 7-1 victory...their 23rd of the season. Nick-o Fristch also created havok on the basepaths helping drive home 2 runs. Several Highlights on the night: * Former Cobalt Staff Aces Mick and Diesel came out to the park and enjoyed cheap beer while passing judgement on the world from the bleachers. * Shannon "Gamer" Morgan donned the plate tools for the first time this year and looked solid - as long as the ball wasn't popped up. * Mike Hatfield proved he hangs out too much in Norwood bars by dominating the Shuffleboard table. Next up: Cincinnati Suds Bishop Fenwick in Middletown (10am Sunday) wearing gold jerseys.image

Deuce and Ike Lead Cobalts Over Royals 14-5

Posted by Mark Dietz at Jul 9, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Paul Krause and PJ Eilerman combine for the Win on the hill but Mike "Ike" Browning (5-5) and Glen "Deuce" Hock (4-5) do the damage at the plate. Cobalts pounded out 25 hits on the spacious grounds of Xavier University with one of the 25 leaving the yard and bouncing over Victory Parkway...that came off the bat of one Robert Boo Rachel who returned to the Cobalts line-up after a long leave of absence. Also returning to "heavy duty" was Mike Hatfield who gobbled up several well hit aluminum bat shots down to first base in his first field work of the year. Overall the Cobalts stand 22-5. image
