Posted by Mark Dietz at Oct 26, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Winning their 5th Game of the World Series the Cobalts are still alive and one of only 3 Teams remaining in the 2-and-out Tournament. Shannon Morgan returned to dominating form throwing 9 inning complete game Victory over the Murfreesboro Mudcats 3-1. Keith Becker went 8 strong in the Win versus Jet Box. Mikey Taylor gets the save. Stiggy's 3-run HR and Bo's 3-run Triple sealed the big Win over the #1 seeded Box. NEXT came our old friends, The Cincinnati Suds. Funny the two teams should meet again for the 5th time this season...In a typically exciting Suds/Cobalt Game, the 'Balts pulled out a 5-4 Victory. Dave Prosser went 8 for the Win. Mike Bailey gets the save. Hitting came from Todd Taylor, Stiggy, Mikey Taylor, and another Suicide Squeeze by Captain Bo scored Mulves from third. Two more Wins on Saturday will deliver the RING! We face Pittsburgh at 1:45 and then if Win, face Akron A's at 7:30 in City of Palms Stadium (site of our 3A Championship). image

Cobalts CHAMPIONS...Win the TRIPLE CROWN

Posted by Mark Dietz at Oct 4, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Shannon Morgan and Paully Krause combined in an exciting 9-7 Cincinnati Roy Hobbs Championship Game. Tom Taylor, Mike Hatfield, and Todd Taylor (HR) all collected 3 hits in the victory...the 45th Cobalt win of the season. By Winning the Roy Hobbs Title, the CRC Championship, and the NABF Regional Tournament Championship, the Cobalts have done what no other team in Cincinnati Amateur (Semi Pro) Baseball has ever done!!! Congrats to ALL current and former Cobalts who have been part of the family for these past 20 years...you all deserve this place in Cincinnati Baseball history! Appreciate both Young and Ol' Balts who made this year a special season. Now let's go win that RING in Florida! image
The Cobalts remain Undefeated in the 2006 Cincinnati Roy Hobbs Tournament with a 16-11 Victory over the previously undefeated Astros. The Win was costly though, as the already short-handed Cobalt Staff (No Monster, Becker, or El-Vicator due to innings played ruling) lost Shannon Morgan for next game after a "misunderstanding" with the home plate "umpire". Tom Taylor lead the game off with an HR and the Cobalts went on to build a 9-1 lead. But the Astros battled back to take back the lead until Paully Krause came in to retire 9 of 10 last batters while the offense re-sparked scoring 16 total. Now the Cobalts wait while the other 3 teams remaining (Bulls, Suds, and Astros) battle it out to play the 2 and Out final round(s). Another Tourney, More Drama....but we're such nice guys! image

The Cobalts will try to make it a clean sweep of the Queen City after first winning the CRC City Tournament, then the NABF Regional, the Roy Hobbs Regular Season, and now the Roy Hobbs Cincinnati League Tournament Championship. The Tournament continues this Sunday with the following Upper Bracket seedings and pairings: #1 Cobalts vs. #5 Bulls>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cobalts #2 Suds versus #3 Astros>>>>>>>>>>>>> Astros #1 Cobalts vs. #8 Brew Crew..........Cobalts #4 Patriots vs. #5 Bulls.............Bulls #3 Astros vs. # 6 Royals..............Astro #2 Suds vs. #7 Rangers................Suds The games are nine innings and it is a "2 and Out" Tournament format. It may also be our last games ever played with aluminum bats as the league looks to make a permanent switch to all wood. Go 'Balts !!! image
