Rain Finally Ends - Cobalts Bow Out of City

Posted by Mark Dietz at Aug 2, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

After 4 straight nights of rainouts, the Chiefs and Cobalts finally took the field and, as earlier in the season, the pitchers stole the show. Morgan threw great - giving up only 2. Unfortunately the Balts bats were silenced by 11Ks from the Chiefs tough wrong-hander and go down 2-0. Congrats to Chiefs who go on to claim this year's City Title and get the 2nd automatic bid to NABF Regionals.

The Draw for Tournament pairings is Wednesday night.

NABF Regionals begin Thursday afternoon.

A mild manored 6'5" Elementary Teacher by Day; Mean Side-arrrm Slinger by night - Paully still's got it! He's been throwing lights out for the Cobalts for over 18 years. Tuesday night was no different as the big right-hander holds a tough Yorkville team in-check for a 2-1 victory in City Tournament play.

And, the Balts catch a break with the Lugnutz laying 7 runs on the Cincy Creds - so Cobalts advance to Championship round!

Next up: Chiefs in Semi-Finals (if it ever stops raining)

Cobalts are now 23-1 in 2009

City Tournament Begins - Cobalts Get A Big Zit

Posted by Mark Dietz at Jul 27, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Cobalts open the City Championship with a 9-3 win over the Lugnuts (Sunderman gets Win, TT and Hat both with HR).

Then in game two, the Cincinnati Creds put the first blemish on the 2009 season for the Balts. Unable to overcome a quick 7-0 deficit, the Cobalts put themselves in dire-straits for advancing from Pool Play.

Easy to say the Boys looked past the much improved Creds, but bottom-line: an "L" is an "L" and hopefully a wake-up call for the upcoming NABF Regionals.

Next up: Yorkville.

In front of a capacity crowd, including many Cobalt alumni (and coolers of Natch) Shannon Morgan goes all 7 innings in a solid 8-2 Cobalt victory over the Cincinnati Hawks. Akes, Wags and TT all with multiple RBIs and Rocky Curnayn with a multi-hit night.

The win, and undefeated regular season record, gives the Balts one of the 3 bids into the 8 team NABF Regional Tournament.

Now comes the City CRC Championship Tourney with top seeds Yorkville, Chiefs, and Cheviot all included in the weeklong annual affair...winner also gains a bid to the NABF.

Cobalts now 21-0!!!
