The Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians got a king sized performance from righty, Craig Field, and tied  the best of 7 NSSBL Championship Series at one game apiece as they shutout the Sydney Sooners on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Mainland Common, 4-0.  Field was in command throughout and allowed only 4 harmless singles, however, when the Sooners were able to string a few base runners together, the Canadians' defense turned a pair of timely double plays to erase the threat.  Brandon Devlin reached base in all four ABs but belted an RBI triple to score the games first run and later added a single.  Leftfielder, Paul Davie, singled twice with an RBI, Adam Lucas chipped in a double and RBI, while Shawn Walsh laced a double.  Sydney lefthander, Nate Brewer was also very good as the game stood at 2-0 into the eighth inning, but Devlin and Jake Pelham each singled to begin the frame.  Shawn Peverill drew a walk to load the bases before Adam Lucas drew a hard-earned walk to score the third run.  Righthander, Anthony Ianetti entered, and retired the next two batters when Davie singled in Jake Pelham with the final run.  Games 3, 4 and 5 are slated for Sydney next weekend.

The Sydney Sooners struck early and often, then rode the big right arm of Paul Doucette as they grabbed the opener of the best of 7 NSSBL Championship Series on a blustery Saturday afternoon at Mainland Common, 8-3.  Matt Denney rifled a solo homerun and a single, Phil Brown doubled and singled driving home a pair while Jeff MacKinnon doubled and knocked in two.  Jake Pelham homered, singled and knocked in two while Brandon Devlin doubled home the other run.  Paul Doucette was firmly in command and went the distance in tough conditions while his teammates got the best of the Canadians' Mark Haverstock who departed after four innings.  Game two of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 1:30 sharp at Mainland Common.

The 2014 winner of Susan McEachern Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award is Dan Hobson from Truro

The Voice of the Bearcats! Dan runs the scoreboard and keeps the main score book.  He also did some commentary this season for Bell Community One.  He has never missed one of the Bearcats games for the past several years.  He is always very prompt, being at the park well before the team arrives. In short, he has been an integral part of our club whether we are winning or losing. Whenever the Bearcats have fund raisers, he is always willing to offer a helping hand.
