The Halifax entry in the NSSBL, formerly known as the Halifax Pelham Electric Blues, is now called the Halifax Pelham Canadians. The team continues to be sponsored by Pelham Electric, and they have been joined by Molson Canadian.
The team has undergone a change the in coaching ranks as well. Cecil Wright takes over the reigns this year as head coach, and has brought Calvin Byard and Justin Turple aboard as his assistants.
"We'll have a new look and hope to play an exciting brand of baseball this year", said Wright. "Our League three perenially stroing teams in Truro, Dartmouth and Kentville. We hope to be right there with them in the thick of things as the season progresses. Calvin and Justin have a lot of experience and a great knack of spotting flaws and weaknesses. We fell fortunate to have them join the team."

The Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League returned its entire slate of Executive officers from their 2002 season, for the upcoming 2003 season, at their spring league meetings in Sackville this weekend past.
Returning executive include Sydney’s Jim "Rico" MacEachern, President & CAO; 1st Vice-President Anne Marie Simmons from Halifax, Secretary-Treasurer Kay Sperdakes of Sackville, N.S.; Statistician Burton Russell from Kentville and Director of Public Relations, Terry Dunbrack of Halifax.
At their meetings the Board of Directors adopted an increased 35 game schedule up from 30 games in 2002, for each one of its returning teams – Dartmouth, Halifax, Kentville, Sackville, Truro, and Yarmouth. The Sydney Sooners who had been given a year’s leave of absence for the 2002 season informed the league that they would be ending their twenty-six (26) year association with the league, citing inability to obtain required financial sponsorship as the main reason for their termination of participation.
The league will host their fifth annual all star game against the New Brunswick Senior League All Stars, tentatively set for July 12, with the location and program to be announced prior to commencement of the season.
The league will open on Saturday, May 17th, 2003 and regular season play will run through to August 24th, 2003, followed by playoffs with the top four teams of the league competing for championship honors.
The Board of Directors adopted their revised Constitution and Operational Procedures, after a thorough and lengthy review.
The league will be represented at the Canadian Senior National Championships in Windsor, Ontario, Aug 13-18th by defending league champions Truro Bearcats.
Sooners Exit League

In a press release from former Coach and General Manager Jim "Rico" McEachern, the Sydney Sooners Senior Baseball Club, after taking a year's leave of absence from the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League for the 2002 season, will quietly exit the Provincial League, as it was announced the senior club will not participate any longer in the league.
The Sooners, of the founding members of the league in 1977, leave after a twenty-six year association with the league. Sooners' former Coach and GM Jim "Rico" McEachern stated last night that it had been the hope of the club that someone would have stepped forward during the year's leave of absence, to take over the administrative and financial aspects of the club, but unfortunately no one did.
"The operation of a senior team in the provincial league requires a serious committment from a dedicated group who have the time and energy to be involved; the financial aspect is what chased most people away. There are good people in the community who could and would donate their time to most of the other aspects of running the team, but putting together the financial requirememtns was difficult," McEachern stated. "We approached some possible corporate support, but in the end we were unable to put it together," said McEachern.
"Personally I am quite disappointed that we were not able to stay in (the league), because I feel for the group of young ball players who wanted to stay at the sport in a competitive basis, we offered that opportunity for most of them. I don't think this will help the sport grow in Industrial Cape Breton, but rather just the opposite; and from someone who has been involved since 1977 with the league, it leaves a major void in the sport community."
The Sooners hope to stay active locally, in the Cape Breton Community, as they did last summer, setting up a very informal "Alumni Baseball League", for those interested in playing Recreational competitiver baseball.
McEachern will stay involved with the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League as President and CAO in his second term of office.
