The scrappy Sydney Sooners were held in check by veteran Halifax chucker, Mark Haverstock, on six hits through seven innings.  But after retiring the first two men in the top of the eighth inning, outfielder Jordon Shepherd dumped a bunt down the third baseline.  Catcher Matt Denney worked Haverstock for a base on balls before outfielder Phil Brown scored Shepherd with a single.  Designated hitter, Josh Forrest then connected for an opposite-field three-run homer to give the Sooners their first lead of the game and the final margin of victory as they came from behind to defeat a solid Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians squad by a final score of 5-4.  The game was switched to Beazley Field since Mainland Common was not playable due to wet grounds and began some two hours after the scheduled first pitch.  Halifax struck first in the second inning as Adam Lucas and Josh Pelham rode home on a two-run double from Shawn Walsh.  Sydney cut the lead in half in the third inning as Ken Long scored on an infield groundout by Shepherd.  The Canadians scored two more in the fifth inning as Pat Gilbert, who was hit by a pitch and Brandon Devlin, who had doubled, were driven home by a Jake Pelham single.  Those were the only runs allowed by righthander Paul Doucette, though Halifax left the bases loaded in the seventh and eighth innings.  Doucette, who won three games in the series, was named playoff MVP and the Sooners, with their back to back championship, earned the right to represent the NSSBL next year at the Baseball Canada Senior Mens Championship to be held in Chatham, NB.

Sydney Sooners bounced back from their 5-2 loss to Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians on Friday night, when they took two wins in their doubleheader games on Saturday at the Susan McEachern Memorial Ball Park in Sydney. Sooners won the opener 8-4 and then took the second half of the doubleheader  by a score of 10-3. Sooners now travel to Halifax on Saturday, October 3rd for game six, with the seventh game scheduled for Sunday, October 4th, if necessary.
Sooners are seeking their first back to back Championship, since they won back to back in 1982 and 1983.

Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians took a 2-1 game lead in the best of seven NSSBL Championship Final when they defeated the Sydney Sooners 5-2 Friday night at the Susan McEachern Memorial Ball Park in Sydney. Halifax was held to only seven hits but bunched four of them in the three run fifth inning, which was the difference in the final score. Both teams go at it again on Saturday in Sydney with a doubleheader (games 4 and 5 of the series) at 1:00 and 5:30.
