Gary MacDonald Award to Be Presented

The NSSBL will be making the presentation of the 2002 Gary MacDonald Gold Glove/Gold Bat Memorial Award during the Thursday night (August 28 @ 7:30) between the Sackville Beaver Bank Physio Cheifs and the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry. The presentation will take place during the fifth inning with the League Executive and NSSBL Alumni on hand. The 2002 recipient of the Award was Jamie Vallis who had earned the honours while playing for Sackville. Some of Jamie Vallis' statistical highlights from the 2002 campaign included: AB 113 RUNS 21 HITS 44 RBI 21 AVG. 389 6TH HIGHEST AVERAGE IN THE LEAGUE. TIED FOR FOURTH IN HITS WITH 44. TIED FOR FIFTH IN DOUBLES WITH 10. The Gary MacDonald Gold Glove/Gold Bat Memorial Award is presented to the player that exhibits the greatest game day skills as voted upon by the opposing team in the form of a player of the game vote. The player accummulating the most regulas season game votes wins this prestigious award. The Award is presented in memory of Gary MacDonald, a forner League founding player, who performed with star status as a career shortstop with the Sydney Sooners. The award exemplifies the combination of game skills and a professional competitiveness tha twere characteristics displayed by MacDonald during his career. Dartmouth Clinch First

With the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry 6-1 victory over the Kentville Wildcats, the Dry have clinched first overall and will face the Halifax Pelham Canadians in the first round of the playoffs. Kentville draws Truro Maple Leaf Foods Inc. Bearcats as their opening round opponent. The playoff schedule will be best of seven match-ups and will be announced Thursday evening.
