Suspensions issued

Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League vice-president Terry Dunbrack has issued the following suspensions as per NSSBL guidelines stemming from a bench-clearing incident between the Halifax Pelham Canadians and Truro Bearcats in Game 2 of their best-of-seven semifinal series on Friday, Sept. 5.

To Halifax's Mark Haverstock: Three games (one for a second ejection in a season, two for fighting).

To Halifax's Ryan Veinot: One game (second ejection in a season).

To Truro's Jeff Chisholm: Two games (fighting).

Teams have the option to appeal the ruling. The league will appoint an appeal committee if one becomes necessary.

The Truro Bearcats pounded out 14 hits, and Craig Higgins pitched his second complete-game win of the postseason in a 15-3 victory over host Halifax Pelham Canadians tonight at the Mainland Common to take a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven semifinal series. Game 4 goes Wednesday at the TAAC Grounds in Truro at 7:30 p.m.

At Beazley Field in Dartmouth, the defending champion Moosehead Dry claimed their first victory of the playoffs, 4-2 over the Kentville Wildcats to cut Kentville's lead in the best-of-seven semi to 2-1. Game 4 goes Wednesday at Memorial Park in Kentville at 7:30 p.m. Jason Bailey tossed the complete-game victory, striking out 11.

Playoffs on hold until Tuesday

With the remnants of tropical storm Hanna moving through the Maritimes this weekend, the best-of-seven semifinals have been put on hold until Tuesday.

Both series are scheduled to resume Tuesday night, with the Halifax Pelham Canadians hosting the Truro Bearcats and the Kentville Wildcats in Dartmouth to take on the Moosehead Dry. Both are 7:30 p.m. starts.

Updated schedules have been posted in the "Calendar" and "Schedules" sections of the website. 

Once dates for Games 5, 6, and 7 of the Truro-Halifax series have been confirmed, they will be added to the site.

Truro, Kentville take 2-0 leads

The Truro Bearcats and Kentville Wildcats moved ahead 2-0 in their respective best-of-seven semifinal series with victories this evening.

At Memorial Park in Kentville, the Wildcats scored twice in the eighth inning and added two more in the ninth to defeat the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry 7-6.

Road teams strike first as playoffs begin

The road teams seized home-field advantage as both semifinal series began tonight.

At the Mainland Common in Halifax, Craig Higgins tossed a complete-game four-hitter with six strikeouts, and accounted for his team's offence with a two-run double in the third inning as the Truro Bearcats edged the Halifax Pelham Canadians 2-1.
