#3 READY TO MAKE HIS RETURN TO THE DRY

Posted by Cecil Wright at Jul 10, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry players are the happiest bunch of ball players anywhere despite their current two game losing streak. Their all-time pitching leader and the pitcher considered by many to be the best amateur pitcher in the country over the past 10 years, lefty Jason Bailey, is returning to the club for the remainder of the season.

Bailey told the Dry of his intention to retire to focus on his touch football career but his competitive desire and the lure of returning to seek a gold medal at the Canadian Senior Baseball Championship in Chatham, N.B., Aug. 25-28, convinced him to come back. He will be in the line-up tomorrow night when the Dry travel to Truro. He will play in the outfield and take time to throw with back-up catcher, Jordan Oakey, to get back in pitching shape. His first start is likely to take place in the last week of July.

Bailey was 5-2 last season and led the league in strikeouts with 85 and posted an ERA of 2.40, third best in the league.

Mark Pelham of the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians has been chosen the Cleve's Source for Sports Player of the Week for his outstanding offensive contribution to the Canadians' two victories in last week's NSSBL action. Pelham, a co-coach of the Canadians, led his team to victories over the Truro Bearcats and the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry . He had 7 hits, including 2 doubles and 5 singles, in 11 at bats for an average of .636. He also drove in 3 runs.

Other players considered for the award were Ryan Veinot of the Canadians, Guy Pellerine of the Bearcats, Justin Brewer of the Sydney Sooners, Chris Head of the Dry, and Kevin Nichols of the Kentville Wildcats.

Jim "Rico" McEachern announced today that star outfielder Beau Chiasson of his Sydney Sooners has decided to call it a career. Chiasson announced his retirement this week after an outstanding career that saw him become one of the Sooners' biggest stars and an assistant coach wih McEachern. A role model for the younger players, Chiasson played the game with class, hustle, and determination. He was runner-up in last year's MVP voting, was an all-star outfielder, and a member of the silver medallists, Dartmouth Moosehead Dry, at last year's national championships. He also set a new standard for the league last season becoming the only player to steal second, third, and home in succession, obviously a record never to be broken.

The Sooners and the NSSBL say thank you to Beau and wish him the very best, and hope to see him at the ballpark.
