In game one of a twinbill at the Mainland Common, Nate Brewer silenced the Halifax offense while the Sydney bats struck early and often on their way to a 10-0 shutout of the Canadians. Brewer allowed 7 singles and watched as batterymate Matt Denney swung the big stick with a pair of two-run singles and knocked in five runners. Sean Ferguson and Chris Farrow knocked in a pair of runners each for the Sooners while Pat Gilbert and Mark Pelham each singled twice for Halifax. Brandon MacKinnon took the loss.

The Sooners completed the sweep in the nightcap as righthanders Craig Field and Anthony Ianetti were both in control after three innings before Sydney scored one in the 4th inning and three in the 5th against Field. Sean Ferguson lined two singles and knocked in three while Jordon Sheppard singled three times knocking in a pair to pace the Sooners. Pat Gilbert connected for four singles while Mark Pelham singled and plated Gilbert.

What started out as a pitchers' duel between righthanders Mark Haverstock and Logan Aker ended in a battle of the big innings as the Sydney Sooners shaded the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians 6-5 at Mainland Common. The Sooners drew first blood in the 5th inning as Josh Forrest rode home on a Phil Brown double. Sydney struck again in the 6th as Kenny Long scored on an RBI single by Jordon Sheppard. Halifax answered by sending 11 men to the plate and scoring 5 runs in the 7th inning, featuring a two-run single by Brandon Devlin in an inning that saw Aker hit four Canadians. Sydney responded with four in the 8th inning as Haverstock hit two Sooners setting the stage for a big RBI single from Forrest. Kenny Long got the win by firing 3 scoreless innings of relief. These same two teams square of in a doubleheader starting at 11am on Sunday morning.

Halifax and Kentville worked overtime last night at the Mainland Common thanks to a two-out ninth inning homer off the bat of Colby Turple, which tied the score at 4, before Jake Pelham scored the winning run on an error in the tenth. Righthander, Mark Haverstock entered in relief of Kyle Donovan and newcomer Jimmy Chang, and allowed only two hits in his four innings of work. Halifax and Sydney are slated to play a three-game weekend series beginning Friday night at the Mainland Common.
