The Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League has finalized its schedule for the 2004 season. For the first time since 1988, NSSBL teams will square off against a New Brunswick-based opponent in regular-season play. The Moncton Mets have agreed to three interleague games against each of the five NSSBL clubs, for a total of 15 games. The results will count in the NSSBL standings. The five NSSBL teams — Dartmouth Moosehead Dry, Halifax Pelham Canadians, Kentville Wildcats, Sackville Beaverbank Physio Chiefs, and Truro Bearcats — will also play 32 games against each other, for a 35-game regular season. The top four regular-season finishers make the playoffs. The league’s 27th season opens May 22, with Sackville visiting Halifax at the Wanderers Grounds at 7 p.m. The Mets were members of the NSSBL from 1986 to 1988, capturing the regular-season pennant and reaching the league final each of those three years, winning the league title in 1987 and 1988. Their roster included former major-league pitcher Bill (Spaceman) Lee and current Philadelphia Phillies reliever Rheal Cormier. Moncton will host the Canadian senior championship Aug. 26-29. The Mets play a 28-game schedule in the New Brunswick senior league. As 2003 NSSBL champion, Dartmouth will represent the province at nationals.
