Second round of interleague games underway

The latest slate of interleague games got underway at sites in Nova Scotia this afternoon and evening. New Brunswick won three of five games today, and leads the overall series 8-5, with four more games scheduled for tomorrow. - Barrett Bellefontaine tossed a complete-game three-hitter to lead the Halifax Pelham Canadians to a shutout win, 9-0 over the Moncton Mets. Congratulations to Halifax Pelham Canadians pitcher Mark Haverstock, who recorded the first no-hitter in league play in five years tonight as his team blanked the Sackville Chiefs 11-0. Haverstock struck out seven and walked two to earn the victory. Craig Higgins of the Truro Bearcats had the last no-hitter prior to tonight, a 10-1 win over the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry on Aug. 2, 2001. Postponed interleague games

The following games will not be played this weekend, as the Fredericton Royals will not be able to field a team. Saturday, July 1 -- Fredericton at Sackville, 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1 -- Fredericton at Kentville, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 2 -- Fredericton at Dartmouth, 2 p.m. The remainder of this weekend's interleague schedule will proceed as planned, weather permitting. These games were to have been played June 10-11, but were postponed because of rain. Saturday, July 1 -- Moncton at Halifax, 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1 -- Saint John at Kentville, 2 p.m. Saturday.
