Canadians split twinbill

The Halifax Pelham Canadians hosted the Truro Bearcats and Kentville Wildcats today at the Mainland Common. Truro defeated Halifax 7-4 in the opener, and the Canadians got by the Wildcats 8-5 in the nightcap.

Dartmouth advances to playoffs at nationals

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry split a pair of games today to finish round-robin play at the Canadian senior baseball championship in Brandon, Man., with a 3-1 record and advance to Sunday's playoffs.

Dartmouth dropped an 11-2 decision to B.C. in an afternoon contest. Craig Langille was the losing pitcher. Darren Doucette, Greg West and Craig MacDonald had a hit apiece for the Dry.

The Dry rebounded to edge Ontario 2 3-2 tonight, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Joel Irvine had two of Dartmouth's five hits, and Shain Beaudreau got the win in relief of starter Craig Higgins, a pickup from the Truro Bearcats.

Dartmouth finished in second place in its pool, and will take on Alberta in a quarterfinal matchup Sunday at 11 a.m. Atlantic time. The winner advances to play Quebec in a 2 p.m. semifinal. The bronze-medal game is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the gold-medal game at 9 p.m.

Dry rained out in Brandon

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry's game against British Columbia today at the Canadian senior baseball championship in Brandon, Man., was postponed because of rain.

It will be made up Saturday. Dartmouth also plays Ontario 2 on Saturday to complete the round-robin portion of its schedule.

 

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 6-2 this afternoon and Manitoba 9-5 tonight on Day 1 of the Canadian senior baseball championship in Brandon, Man.

Dartmouth starter Jason Bailey tossed a complete-game two-hitter against Newfoundland and Labrador, fanning seven. He threw a tidy 93 pitches, 67 for strikes.

Chris Goodie paced the Dry offence with two of their eight hits, and drove in a pair of runs.

The Dry scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 5-5 tie against Manitoba.

Dartmouth meets B.C. in a battle of 2-0 teams Friday at 6 p.m. Atlantic.

Rescheduled games

The remainder of the regular season has been rescheduled as follows:

Sunday, Aug. 24 -- Truro at Halifax, 2 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 24 -- Kentville at Halifax, 5 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 26 -- Dartmouth at Halifax, 7:30 p.m.

Changes have been noted on the "Schedules" and "Calendar" sections of the website.

Playoffs are expected to begin later next week.
