The Halifax Pelham Canadians are 2-1 after two days at the 2009 Canadian senior baseball championship, defeating the Trail Orioles of B.C., 4-2 this afternoon at the Mainland Common. Canadians starter Mark Haverstock threw a complete-game three-hitter.

Halifax wraps up round-robin play Saturday at noon at the Mainland Common against the Fredericton Royals of New Brunswick.

Quebec comes back to edge Dry

Jean-Philippe Lapointe's three-run homer with one out in the top of the seventh inning lifted Team Quebec to a 3-2 decision over the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry tonight in front of more than 1,000 fans at Beazley Field in the marquee game on opening day of the 2009 Canadian senior baseball championship.

Dartmouth has a pair of games Friday, versus Ontario at noon and against Chatham, N.B., at 7 p.m.

Canadians edge St. John's

The Halifax Pelham Canadians edged the St. John's WINMAR Capitals from Newfoundland and Labrador 5-4 this morning at the Mainland Common to kick off the 2009 Canadian senior baseball championship.

Dartmouth's Doucette wins homer derby

Darren Doucette of the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry won the home run derby Wednesday night at Beazley Field in Dartmouth to kick off the week's activities at the Canadian senior baseball championship.

Doucette belted five home runs in the first round, and needed only one in the second round to clinch the title and a $250 gift certificate from Cleve's Source for Sports. Gerald Butt of the St. John's WINMAR Capitals was second, and received a $150 gift certificate from Cleve's Source for Sports.

Tournament play begins Thursday morning.Game results will be posted as they become available.
