Playoff schedule set

The playoff matchups have been determined at the Canadian senior baseball championship.

The Windsor Stars of Ontario are facing the Halifax Pelham Canadians at Beazley Field, while the St. John's WINMAR Capitals of Newfoundland and Labrador are taking on the Chatham Ironmen of New Brunswick (New Brunswick 2) at the Mainland Common. Both are 8:30 p.m., starts tonight. EastLink Television (www.eastlink.ca) is airing the Ontario-Halifax game live.

Alberta and Quebec received byes to Sunday's semifinals.

Final round-robin standings and scores have been posted on the "Senior Nationals" section of the website. Quarterfinal scores will be posted when completed.

Halifax advances, Dartmouth eliminated

The Halifax Pelham Canadians have reached the playoffs at the Canadian senior baseball championship, winning a wild 10-9 game over the Fredericton Royals of New Brunswick this afternoon at the Mainland Common in Halifax.

Halifax finished round-robin play in Pool A with a 3-1 record, and in second place, and will meet the Windsor Stars of Ontario in a quarterfinal game at Beazley Field.

The tournament host Dartmouth Moosehead Dry were eliminated from playoff contention after the Chatham Ironmen (New Brunswick 2) defeated the Windsor Stars of Ontario 2-0 this afternoon at Beazley Field to complete round-robin play in Pool B.

Chatham, Dartmouth and Windsor all finished with 2-2 records. Chatham took second, Windsor was third and Dartmouth fourth in the tie-breaking formula of run differential per inning in games involving the tied teams. Team Quebec (3-1) finished first in Pool B.

Dartmouth in the win column

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry are still in the race after a dramatic 5-2 victory over the Chatham Ironmen of New Brunswick in nine innings this morning at Beazley Field in the completion of a game suspended Friday night by fog at the Canadian senior baseball championship.

Darren Doucette drilled a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to snap a 2-2 tie, and Matt McDonald threw a complete-game seven-hitter, fanning eight on 149 pitches. Chatham's J-F Neveau was heroic in defeat, allowing 10 hits while striking out 14 and tossing 145 pitches.

Dartmouth has to beat the Brandon Marlins of Manitoba this afternoon to remain in the hunt for a playoff berth. The game is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. EastLink will air the game live.

Dartmouth falls to 0-2

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry are 0-2 after an 8-3 loss to the Windsor Stars of Ontario this afternoon at Beazley Field at the 2009 Canadian senior baseball championship.

Dartmouth faces a must-win game today at 7 p.m., against the Chatham Ironmen of New Brunswick, and must also defeat the Brandon Marlins of Manitoba on Saturday to reach the quarterfinals.

This evening's games at the Canadian senior baseball championship have been suspended by fog. The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry lead the Chatham Ironmen of New Brunswick (N.B. #2) 2-0 in the third inning, and the Brandon Marlins of Manitoba lead Team Quebec 5-2 in the sixth inning.

The Dartmouth-Chatham game is scheduled to resume Saturday morning at Beazley Field in Dartmouth at 8:30 a.m. The Brandon-Quebec game is scheduled to resume Saturday morning at the Mainland Common in Halifax at 9 a.m.

The rest of Saturday's schedule has been affected. An updated schedule is on the "Senior Nationals" section of the website. Note that a quarterfinal game Saturday night has been moved to the Mainland Common.
