Dry Pound Wildcats in Game 1

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry got off to a great start in game 1 of the NSSBL finals, Chris Head led off with a triple and was driven in by Dan Comeau one batter latter Darren Doucette hit a monster shot off starter Kevin Nichols. Doucette hit a three run homer in the second inning and drove in two more in the third to fininsh 8 RBI. The Wildcats had their chances early loading the bases in the 1st and 2nd but Cam Marling pitched out of the jams and got into a groove. Game 2 is saturday night at 7pm at Beazley Field, Shayne Conrad will start for the Wildcats and Shain Beaudreau will start for the Dry.

Lefties match up in game 1

Game 1 of the NSSBL finals between the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry and Kentville Wildcats will feature and up and comer vs a crafty veteran. The Dry will start Left hander Cameron Marling who finished the regular season with a 4-1 record and a 2.27 era, he was fantastic on Sunday night yielding 2 hits and striking out 11 vs Halifax in the clinching game of the semi final series. The Wildcats will counter with a lefty of their own Kevin Nichols. Nichols, had one of his best seasons ever with a 5-0 record and a 1.40 era in the regular season, he was named top left handed pitcher in the league and backed it up with 2 wins vs Sydney in the semi final series. Game time is 7:30 pm at Kentville Memorial Park. Game 2 is 7pm Saturday night at Beazley Field in Dartmouth

NSSBL Awards Winners

2012 NSSBL ALL-STARS AND AWARD WINNERS ALL-STARS 
Catcher:  Justin Stephens, Dartmouth.   Batting average: .283.  Included in his 26 hits were 6 home runs which tied him for third place in the league in that category. 
First base: Shawn Peverill, Halifax.  Batting average: .370 – seventh highest in the league. His 40 hits represented a third- place finish among the leaders. He was second in the league in RBIs with 30.    He tied for first in doubles with 10.  
Second base: Adam Lucas, Halifax.  His .321 average was eleventh best in the league.  He was tied for sixth place in hits with 34, while placing second among the league leaders in runs scored with 27.His 26 RBIs represented the fourth highest, while his six home runs gave him a tie for third place. 
Third base:  Cody Shrider, Kentville.   He finished tenth among the leaders with a .323 batting average. He tied for fifth place in runs scored with 24.  .  He tied for first place in doubles with 10. He also was also the league leader in pitching saves with three. 
Shortstop: Ian Lockhart, Kentville. He finished third in the batting race with a .402 average.  He was fourth in hits with 37, while placing sixth in RBIs with 23.  
Designated Hitter: Darren Doucette, Dartmouth.  He had a .304 batting average, while leading the league in home runs with 11 and in RBIs with 36.  
Right handed pitcher:  Shain Boudreau, Dartmouth.  His 5-1 record and .833 winning percentage gave him a second-place tie among the pitching leaders.  His five wins also represented a second place tie.  He was fourth in the ERA category with a 2.35 mark and third in strikeouts with 51.  He also placed third in innings pitched with 72.2 to his credit.  
Left handed pitcher: Kevin Nichols, Kentville.  His 5-0 record was No.1 among the league’s pitchers in winning percentage. His 1.40 ERA was tops in the league, while his five wins represented a second-place tie.              
Outfielders: Chris Head, Dartmouth.  He was the league’s batting champion with a .435 average, having 50 hits in 115 at bats.  He was league leader in hits with 50, in runs scored with 39 and in stolen bases with 32. He tied for first in doubles with10, while placing second in home runs with 8. He was third in RBIs with 27.  
Matt Thomas, Dartmouth..  He was eighth in the batting race with a .369 average. His 38 hits and 26 runs scored represented fourth-place finishes among the league leaders, while his eight doubles gave him a second place tie.   
Billy MacKenzie, Kentville.  He finished second in the batting race with a .433 average, having 45 hits in 104 at bats. His 45 hit- total was second best in the league, while his 21 RBIs gave him a seventh-place finish.   
Coach of the year: Ian Mosher, Kentville.  He guided the Wildcats to a first-place finish on the basis of a 21-7 (.750) record.                
Most Valuable Player:  Chris Head, Dartmouth.  
Gary MacDonald Memorial Gold Glove and Gold Bat Award for most player of the game votes:  Chris Head, Dartmouth. 
Susan MacEachern Memorial Award for the league’s volunteer of the year: Sandy VanBlarcom, Kentville

Dry Win to Sweep Pelham Canadians

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry will advance to the NSSBL finals with a 5-2 win over the Halifax Pelham Canadians to sweep the best of 5 series. Cameron Marling was fantastic picking up the win. The Dry will face the Kentville Wildcats in the best of seven finals starting tentatively Friday night in Kentville, the official schedule will be released etoday or tomorrow.
