Celebrates Little League Season Opener April 8, 2002 -- Councilwoman Melinda Katz celebrated the start of the Little League season by throwing out the first pitch at this year’s Forest Hills Little League opening game on Saturday, April 6. “All too often headlines are filled with stories of tragedy and despair.� Said Councilwoman Katz. “Events like these that take place every weekend remind us that there is something to celebrate: communities that work and play together.� Councilwoman Katz’s team, Katz’s Kids, faced off against the team sponsored by CFS Bank. Katz’s Kids is starting its first year as a member of the T-Ball division of the Forest Hills Little League and is made up of five and six year olds from Forest Hills, Rego Park, Kew Gardens, Corona, Elmhurst and Woodhaven areas. “Forest Hills Little League has been a star player in our community for over 40 years.� said Katz. “The start of the season means the start of a safe, fun and responsible springtime for the children in our neighborhood.� Before throwing out the first pitch, Katz shared her musical talents by singing the National Anthem. “All of Queens’ kids are my kids.� said Katz. “Here’s to a super Little League season.�image
