Winter Workouts To Begin in January

Posted by Lois Sakany at Dec 4, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Gothams will hold winter workouts/tryouts over the winter months starting in January as we prepare for our fifth season. Check back here for more details later. Enjoy the holiday season!
Francisco Perez took a team of fourteen 14 and 15 year olds to the Dominican Republic for Thanksgiving weekend, where they played a number of local teams, many of which had older and more experienced players. The team played smart Gothams baseball, going 3-1-1 with everyone contributing and playing well under pressure. The game scores were: 6-1, 4-6, 2-1, 6-5 and 16-16(9 inn). Many thanks to all the parents who helped out, especially Tim and Barbara Gunn, who coordinated the trip. The success and sportsmanship shown on this trip make future trips to the Dominican Republic likely.

The Board of Directors has unanimously elected Larry Momo to a two year term as President effective today. Larry has served as Vice President for the past two years and as Team Administrator for the past three. Congratulations to Larry and best wishes as he leads the Gothams forward. Larry succeeds Geoff Rich, who will remain on the Board and assist Larry with the transition. Geoff oversaw the expansion of the Gothams from two teams to five, and under his leadership the organization reached new heights, including this summer's AAU National Championship. Many thanks to Geoff for his dedication and hard work, and congratulations on a job well done!

Raphael Gonzalez Signs with the Yankees

Posted by Lois Sakany at Nov 18, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The New York Gothams are extremely proud to announce that Raphael Gonzalez, who has pitched for us since our first season when he was 14 years old, recently signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees. Raphael, a righthander whose fastball reached 94 m.p.h. last season, pitched numerous no-hitters for the Gothams. Perhaps Raphael's most impressive game was during a Fourth of July ECTB tournament in Pennsylvania when he pitched a complete game, striking out every batter except one, who bunted the ball back to Raphael for the out. The entire Gotham organization congratulates Raphael and wishes him tremendous success with the Yankees.

Two WBA Championships this Fall Season

Posted by Lois Sakany at Nov 3, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Congratulations to our 14U and 16U teams for each winning the WBA Championship this fall. Both teams were managed by Francisco Perez. Our 14U team, led by starting pitcher Sam Heiserman and featuring back-to-back home runs by Andy Diaz and Jeremy Lopez, defeated Shrub Oak on Saturday by a score of 13-6 for the title. On Sunday, our 16U team completed an undefeated fall season by winning 3-1 against White Plains. The winning pitcher was Nat Young, who pitched a complete game and now has won a remarkable 23 consecutive starts. Our 13U, 15U and 18U teams fell just short of their goal. The 13's defeated the Brooklyn Bonnies before falling to Riverdale 4-3 in their second game of the Diamond Pro playoffs. The 18's were defeated 3-2 by Frozen Ropes of White Plains in the WBA semifinals. Our 15U team made it to the finals in the Diamond Pro league before falling. Each team should be congratulated for having a fine fall season. The Gothams organization compiled an aggregate record of 53-11 this fall. Congratulations to all!
