Hey MHSCC folks! Glad to say at least one MHSCCer made the trip to the TS Smith Apple Orchards in Bridgeville Saturday for a fun run. Christian Dubsky poured in a 25:36 to finish middle of the pack. Though it wasn't good enough for a medal, he did take home a sack of apples and a mud-bogging good time. 'Ol Bloomie cruised along at 21:38 -- good enough for 13th overall and fourth in my age group. I took the coolest door prize of all -- a bag of donuts!!! If you think Dubsky and I got muddy, you should've seen the Seaford Blue Jays -- Caitlin McGroerty, Ryan Lloyd, Andrew Perciful, and several more -- decided to have a little mud fight to settle the score. At any rate, congrats go out to new MMS teachers Bobby Spath and Kourtney McCullough who picked up medals. It's nice to see Milford queen of news Gwen Guerke cruising along. Sidekick Nick Boggs got second overall running 18:40 something -- a good chunk behind champion Leslie Wright and his 17:57.
The Bucs ran eight girls under 26 minutes to score victories over Lake Forest, 25-34, and Sussex Tech, 26-33, at Redden State Forest Wednesday. The boys just missed Lake, 27-29, but defeated Tech, 20-41. Lindsay Kenton led the girls with a season-best 22:27, while Marissa McDonnell, Amber Zedney and Jessica Fitzpatrick each ran career-bests in the 23s. Amanda Meade and freshmen Erica Godwin and Candice Young rounded out the varsity. For the boys, Chad Carpenter won with a 16:55, while Keith Short followed with a 17:50. Scott Hall, Jon Wyman, Joey Palumbo and Chris Demby ran to career-bests for the varsity. In all, 22 runners earned career-bests and four more earned season-best times.
