ROSTRAVER - Serra coach John Mooney is rebuilding after two state championships. Not a familiar face to be seen with Steve Leppo, Jesse Lubasch and Devon Kane serving suspensions and B.J. DePaoli no longer attending Serra. To throw another punch to the mid-section a strong contingent of seniors gone from this years squad. Conemaugh Valley is upstart and Coach Matt Yingling's crew are off to a great start at 2-0. The matchup between Serra and Conemaugh Valley would be a goaltending battle between Corey Stahl and Timmy Johnson. A scoreless tie midway thorugh the 2nd, CJ King took a Josh Jones pass to make it 1-0 Eagles. Then with 1:18 remaining, King blasted a shot from between the circles past Stahl to give Serra a big goal and a 2-0 lead prior to the ice cut. In the third, King completed the hat trick for Serra. Tom Swaszt broke Johnson's shutout bid late in the third, as Serra won its first game of 2001-2002 outshooting the Blue Jays 39-29. imageimage

11/11 Wolverines earned big win over Knoch !

VALENCIA - Woodland Hills coach Tim Wilt was looking for positives from his squad and probably looked at the schedule and said "Hey, Knoch could be a good opportunity for a win !". Both clubs dropped their respective openers and Woodland Hills was looking to improve on its 2-17-1 record from a year ago. The Wolverines struck first as Mark Chernega and Andrew Philp scored early in the first to give Woody High a 2-0 lead. The Knights scoring machine Johnathon Chiplock countered with 2:35 left in the first to cut the lead in half. The teams traded chances in the second period and into the third and it was Chernega on a long slapshot and picking up a rebound to complete the hat trick to push Woodland Hills to a 4-1 advantage. Chiplock closed out the scoring for Knoch and P.J. Schweinberg dashed the Knoch hopes with an empty netter and a 5-2 Wolverine victory. Tim Gribbin stopped 24 of 26 Knoch shots including several from in close to lead Woodland Hills between the pipes !image
