Berlin second at New Fairfield Duals

NEW FAIRFIELD -- Nick Catalano and Dave Sataline each had strong days wrestling, earning four wins each, to pace Berlin to second at the New Fairfield Duals.
The Redcoats, now 22-6 on the year, defeated a co-op team, 70-3; Bristol Eastern, 45-12 and New Paul, N.Y., 63-13. Bethel got the best of Berlin in the day’s final match, winning 37-30.
Catalano (140 pounds) and Sataline (215) were joined by four-time winners John Russo (275), C.J. McCormack (135) and B.J. Madey (130). Russo is now 34-0 with 28 pins and McCormack improves to 31-3. Madey is 28-7.
Mike Crowe (112), Dan Madey (119) and Chris Santerre (125) all had three wins and T.J. Farr (103), Jim Solek (145), Nick DiSalvo (171) and Matt Powell (189) picked up two wins each. Eric McCurdy added a win at 160.
Berlin hosts Rocky Hill on Wednesday night on Senior Night. A win will give Berlin the Northwest Conference championship.
Small Minutemen Squad Top Avon

The Minutemen travelled to Avon High School on Saturday, February 8th and beat the Avon squad 70-42. Due to illness the Minutemen had a small squad that had to wrestle a lot of matches.
Winning four matches were: Anthony Scacca and Brendan Butler both with one pin.
Bringing home two wins were: Anthony Zovich, Ryan Butler, Andrew Alessi and Mason Powers. Winning one match were: Jeremy and Jacob Eliades.
Wrestling tough but ending on the short end of the score were: Tim Norton and Derrick Durity.
The best matches of the day were put in by Matthew Bogden who lost three matches but worked hard throughout. He lost his final match by a score of 9-8.
The Minutemen improved their record to 7-1 on the season.

If we only had a few more wrestlers we would have brought home the third place trophy. However those that attended did well! Placing first with three pins was Kevin Moss. Placing first in a tough bracket was Jonathan Fiorillo and third in the same bracket was Derrick Durity. A final gold was won by Anthony Zovich.
Also placing third at the tournament were: Jacob Eliades and Mason Powers. Jeremy Eliades placed fourth.
