Minutemen Youth Wrestling

The Berlin Minutemen faired well at the Meriden Youth Tournament on Sunday, February 29th at Platt High School. Mighty Mite: Andrew Zovich 2nd Place (3 pins) Bantams: Matthew Cote 1st, Colin Cunningham 3rd, Jeremy Eliades 1st (3 pins), Brendan Butler 1st (3 pins) and wrestling in his first tournament Devon Reilly had one win on the day. Midgets: Anthony Zovich 1st, Nicholas Mangiafico 2nd, Ricky Mullins 2nd, Sean Pentalow 2nd, Anthony Scacca 3rd, Jacob Eliades 2nd, Ryan Butler 1st, Tyler Cunningham 1st and Nathan Giaccone had one pin on the day. These young wrestler's are preparing for the Kid's State Tournament to be held on Saturday March 13th at Wethersfield High School.

District #1 Results from Sunday, February 29, 2004 Competing in the District #1 tournament were: Berlin, Bethel, Canton, Danbury, Meriden, Middletown, Mountaineer Youth, New Fairfield, New Milford, North West, Ridgefield, Wallingford. The Middle School Minutemen finished as follows: Novice Division 85lbs : 3rd Place Ryan Bisson 95lbs : 1st Place Mason Powers 95lb : 5th Place Brandon Solek 100lb : 2nd Place Jack Banks Middle School Division 90lb : 2nd Place Kevin Moss 90lb : 3rd Place Ryan Vujs 105lb : 5th Place Chris Solek 120lb : 6th Place Ryan DeGroff 145lb : 3rd Place Cameron Banks 165lb : 1st Place Matt DelConte Wrestling hard but not placing on the day were Sheri Sylvia and Jack Rudy.

Sometimes the matches go your way due to the experience you have at certain weights and this match was no exception as the Minutemen topped New Fairfield 30-17. Some Minutemen had multiple matches and did well. Leading the way were Jacob Eliades 4-0, Jonathan Fiorillo 4-0 with 2 pins, Cameron Bank fresh back from vacation 4-0 3 pins, Tyler Cunningham 3-0, Ryan DeGroff who went 4-1 on the night with 2 pins, 1 Major Decision, Kevin Moss 2-3 2 pins, Sam Vreeland 2 wins and Mason Powers who wrestled tough in four matches with one pin. Also wrestling well with a win each were Anthony Zovich, Jeremy Eliades, Matt Cote, Colin Cunningham, Ricky Mullins and Matt DelConte. Coming up short on the night but working hard were: Nicholas Mangiafico, Devon Reilly, Kyle Zuk, Ryan Bisson, Tim Norton and Sheri Sylvia. The Minutemen are now 7-3 on the season.
