Minutemen Youth Wrestling

Wethersfield High School was the site on Sunday, February 11, 2007 for the President's Day Tournament. The Minutemen wrestled well and here are their results; Bantam: 1st place Nicholas Zuk, 2nd place Michael Patterson. Midget: 1st Jeremy Eliades and Riley Greider Novice: 1st place Nicholas Mangiafico, Matthew Cote, Sean Sullivan, 2nd place Colin Cunningham, 4th Place Kyle Zuk. Middle School: 1st place Mason Powers and Will Matuzsak, 2nd Shaun Sullivan, 3rd Place Eric Cote, Carla Mangiafico, Alison Sullivan. Twenty of the Minutemen will be competing at the USAWCT State Qualifer held at Bristol Central on Sunday February 18th. Those in the Novice and Middle School Divisions must place in the top four to qualify for the State Championship to be held on Sunday, February 25 at Hillhouse High School in New Haven.

The Minutemen did well at the Somers Tournament held on Sunday, January 21st. In the Bantam Division Michael Patterson took 2nd place. In the Midget Division Jeremy Eliades and Devon Reilly took 1st and Riley Greider placed 3rd. In the Novice Division, Brendan Butler and Jacob Eliades placed 1st while Watus Zak and Richie Schlichting wrestled very well in a tough brackets both placing 2nd. The Middle School Division saw Carla Mangiafico, Sean Pentalow and Ryan Butler place 1st while Shaun Sullivan and Ali Sullivan booth took 3rd.

It was a busy day for the Minutemen with 16 wrestlers in Hartford. The results on the day are as follows: Mighty Mite Matthew Peck 3rd Place, Bantams: Michael Patterson 1st, Anthony Marino 2nd, Cody Ruszczyk 4th, Andrew Luczak and Joey Marino. In the Midget Division Connor Ruszczyk and Jordan Chyra placed 4th while Jack Hamel placed 5th in his first tournament. The Novice Division saw Justin Vega 2nd, Andrew Chyra 3rd, Andrew Mals and Micheal Gurrieri 5th. The Middle School division had two first place finishers with Eric Cote and Alex Chyra.

This was a first tournament for many and we did very well.
