Bristol Kids Tournament

First Tournament of the year was held at Bristol Eastern on December 30th.   Eleven Minutemen traveled to Bristol with the following results:

Mighty Mite: Luke Mangiafico 3rd, Bantam: Tony Marino 2nd, Midget: Nick Zuk 1st, Mike Patterson 2nd, Novice: Colin Cunningham 1st, Riley Grieder 3rd,   Jimmy Bourgoin, Matt Cote and Devon Reilly all placed 4th, Middle School: Nick Mangiafico 4th.

Coventry Beginner Tournament

In their first tournament eleven first and second year wrestler's travelled with Coach Pete to Coventry with the following results:

First Place Finishers were Anthony and Isaac Meyer, and Matt Wojciechowski.  The first three brother family in Minutemen history of Zachary, Joshua, and Daniel Veleas all came in second. Competing in the Bantam Division Matt Peck and Jack Hamel in the Midget Division both placed 3rd.   Connor and Cody Ruszczyk in the Midget Division and Frank Cirullo and Calvin Johnson in the Novice division each placed 4th .

Danbury Kids Folkstyle Wrestling Tournament

On Sunday, January 11, 2009 Isaac and Anthony Myers both competed at the Danbury Tournament and both placed 2nd.

12 Attend Bristol Holiday Tournament

On Sunday, December 28, 2008 twelve Berlin Minutemen traveled to Bristol Eastern High School  for the first tournament of the year.  The morning Intermediate group of wrestlers was led by Joseph Pettinelli, Michael Patterson and Nicholas Zuk with first place finishes going undefeated on the day.  Placing third were Isaac Myers and Noah Villella and working hard but out of medal contention were Matthew Wojciechowski and Ryan DeVivo.

The afternoon group had Novice wrestler Anthony Myers place first and Jack Hamel work hard in a tough bracket but finish out of medal placement.  The Middle School group worked hard with a  second place finish by Richie Schlichting and third place finishes by Matthew Cote and Ryan Ogden.

Coach Moss said, "I saw some good work out there and know we can improve in the weeks to come."

The Minutemen Middle School Travel Team opens is dual meet season Friday January 2nd at the old Knights of Columbus Hall on Percival Ave at 6 PM.   All are welcome to cheer on the wrestlers and check out the action.

Southington Tournament Results

On Sunday, January 4, 2009 the Berlin Minutemen traveled to Southington High School to compete in the Sharkfest.  The morning group was led by first place finishers Luke Mangiafico and Daniel Veleas in the Bantam Division.  The Intermediate group had a common theme as four finished in 2nd place with two wins and one loss on the day.  They were Michael Patterson, Joseph Pettinelli, Joshua Veleas and Nicholas Zuk.  Also wrestling tough on the day but out of medal contention were Matthew Bouchard and Cody Ruszcyk.

The older afternoon group were led with first place finishes by Richie Schlichting and Jordan Zima.  Placing second were Matt Cote and Jared Zima while third place finishes were achieved by Tyler Bajjo, Mike Davila and Zachary Veleas.  Wrestling but not placing was Connor Ruszczyk.
