Questions By Newbies

Posted by Roger Moss at Jan 6, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
In the past a parent asked a few questions that I thought would be helpful to everyone.  Here it is:

1. Sunday Tournaments are for those who have experience.  There are "Beginner" tournaments but I try to have those who have at least a year's experience attend those as it can be tough for a young first year kid.

2. Our Tournament is the first Sunday in January.  If we entered all our kids it would take a great deal of coaching on the day and we would spend time trying to get them matches so they didn't just wrestle for 1 seconds.  We will again ask some of the experienced and old new kids to wrestle but not everyone.

4.  Friday matches will be for those first year beginners and younger wrestlers that aren't wrestling on Sundays.  It will all depend on the team we wrestle and what they have for match-ups as we don't want to have 30 kids from Berlin sitting around wrestling each other all night.

The good problem in the past is that we had 90 kids in the program.  I say good problem because wrestling is a sport that is better when you have a lot of bodies.  The bad part is other teams don't have that many and thus when we wrestle them we try to match-up so there is plenty of wrestling and not a lot of down time.

I have seen too many kids get turned off to the sport because the wrestle against another team get pinned in 10 seconds and that's all they know.  Not good and I try to avoid this.

Hope this helps and if it is I will post this on our site so let me know if you have other questions or if anything is unclear.

If you have a question ask.
