2014 Connecticut Green Knight 2nd Chance Tournament
2014 2nd Chance State Tournament Results
A small group of the Berlin Minutemen traveled to Thomaston High for another chance to take home gold as ten young wrestlers competed. Three competed in the annual Girls State Tournament which was open to all female wrestlers in the State of Connecticut.
The trio of female wrestlers were all from the same family as the Morley sisters competed for their own gold medal. Christianna Morley was the lone champion and second for the Minutemen this season. In her final match she bested Clohoe Kennedy of the CT Green Knights 9-8 for the wIn. Older sister Madilin finished 2nd while the youngest Mary Morely finished third.
Zachary Skinner who missed the State Tournament as an alternate was able to wrestle the state champion from his weight class in his final match. “Zachary lost but it was gratifying to him to have a chance to wrestle against the best”, stated C. Roger Moss, Head Coach of the Minutemen. Zachary placed second but wrestled tough all day and won in the last seconds of two matches. Jacob Wagner wrestling in his second year with the Minutemen placed 2nd. Rory Mayer at 75 pounds finished 3rd on the day. There were two Minutemen in the 95 pound bracket and a three way tie for second place. Marcus Kelly-Johnson and Jordan Sackschewsky both finished the day with two wins and two losses to place second. In the Novice Division Michael Lukaszewski wrestled in the 103 pound bracket and was tough on the day but placed 4th. Finally in the Middle School Division Tyler Jones wrestled in the 165 division and finished 4th on the day.
Head Coach Roger Moss added, “As the season winds down there are a few who keep wrestling looking to improve. This year we are going later than in the past due to the snow covered grounds so baseball hasn’t started yet and due to the number of nights we lost from school closures.“ This week the Minutemen will compete in their final tournament of the season at Southington High School.

The results on the day were as follows:
Bantam – First year Austin Teti lost his first match but came back to win his next two the last one by pin to place 2nd. Intermediate wrestlers placing 2nd on the day included second year Jacob Wagner who won an exciting match 3-2, Jordan Sackschewsky lost his first match by a score of 5-1 but came back to dominate his next two opponents winning 11-2 and 12-4, Johnny Rosario won his first match by pin and then lost his final match by takedown in overtime. Wrestling in their first matches ever Mary and Christianna Morely wrestled tough on the day and both placed 4th.
In the afternoon middle schooler Tyler Jones lost his first match in the 160 lb bracket before coming back with some fire to win his final match by pin to place 2nd. Novice wrestler Zachary Polzun placed 4th coming close to win two matches.
Coach Moss said, “I was happy to see how well these wrestlers did. It is a different atmosphere than the practice room and there are a lot of distractions. They all were ready to wrestle and many could have won the matches they lost by having a little more mat time.”
