Guerin Catholic Defeats Lady Golden Bears

The Lady Golden Bears Move Their Record To (5-10 Overall & 1-3 In HHC Play) After Being Defeated By Guerin Catholic 52-47 Tuesday Night. The Lady Bears Was Led In Scoring By: Madison Phares 14, Madison Bassett, & Jaidyn Tackett 11 Apiece, Megan Eads 9, & Abby Brenner2. Guerin Catholic Was Led In Scoring By : Katie Koger 20, & Kathryn Loso 13. The JV Won Their Game 26-21. The Lady Golden Will Be Back In Action On Saturday January 9th When They Travel To Take On Yorktown JV Tip Is At 11 A.M. And Varsity Tip Is At 12:30 P.M.

Madison Bassett from the Girls Basketball Team was presented with a Exemplary Sportsmanship Award today for her action at the Viking Holiday Tournament. Madison is a great representation of what Shelbyville High School Athletics would like to represent. Congrats Madison!

Name: Madison Phares

Daughter of: George Phares and Karen Martin

Sisters: Haley Phares and Angelina Somers

Madison participates in girls basketball as Shelbyville High School. Her favorite TV show is All American while her favorite candy is Watermelon Sour Patch Kids. Madison’s favorite holiday is Christmas because she loves the snow and the spirit of the holiday. Christmas time also brings on basketball season and of course she loves that. Madison enjoys painting and doing other arts and crafts in her time away from the basketball court. Madison’s favorite athletic moment to date is stealing the ball and driving for a lay up resulting in her first varsity points her freshman year. She also noted she enjoyed working on a special play with Kylee Edwards called “pineapple” during practice.

The Lady Golden Bears traveled to Edinburgh on Wednesday 12/29/20 to play a make-up game that was originally scheduled for 11/13/20. Junior guard Jaidyn Tackett was shot out of a cannon to start the game scoring 8 straight points on her way to a 19 point night. Senior guard Megan Eads wanted in on the fun hitting two 3’s in the first quarter. The girls enjoyed a 20-5 lead after the first quarter and took a 35-17 lead into the halftime break. Things didn’t slow down for the Bears as Kaylee Edwards got hot on her way to 19 points on the night. Freshman guard Ava Wilson chipped in 9 points on the night as the Golden Bears finished off Edinburgh 68-48. The Bears move to 5-6 on the year and will travel to the Viking Holiday Tournament on Saturday for two more games. The JV team defeated Edinburgh as well to move to 5-6 on the year. The JV is off until January 5th.

The Lady Golden Bears traveled to HHC foe Pendleton Heights on Wednesday for a varsity only game. The Bears were defeated 56-82. Shelbyville was led in scoring by Kylee Edwards with 12 points, while Madison Phares, and Jaidyn Tackett both had 11 points. The Girls are now 4-7 and will play at Edinburgh on December 30, 2020 with basketball starting at 6 pm.
