Both Boys and Girls teams swept the first three spots in their respective races versus Santa Fe High School this week. Running in the first race of the day, Freshman Destinie Martin ran a picture perfect, come from behind race to place 1^st and capture the first win of her young career. The Lady Mats brought home the victory, 21-34, behind Martin's win, Ana Poblet's 2^nd place finish and Jackie Martinezwho completed the sweep in 3^rd.

The Boys Varsity race saw four sophomores finish as the Matadores top four runners. Paced by Nathaniel Moore's victory, the Matadores went on to capture six of the next seven spots. The final score ballooned behind the fine racing of Jared Bird (2^nd), Daniel Lee (3^rd), and Jake Cooley (5^th).

The Sunny Hills Invitational at Craig Park in Brea was the site for this weeks competition. And, although the teams in attendance seemed to be much faster than in the past, the entire Matador team showed considerable improvement over last year’s team. The warm and sunny weather didn't appear to bother the eighteen athletes who received medals or the ten who earned PR’s. Completing the 3 mile course in 17:08, Nathaniel Moore, Daniel Lee, Jared Bird and Jake Cooley led a team of sophomores that includes 4 of the top 7 runners on the varsity boy’s team. Significantly, the boys dropped over 2 minutes off of last year’s team time. On the girl’s team, Vanessa Thomas led the seniors with a time of 20:33. Sophomore Ana Poblet (21:12) and Freshman Destinie Martin (21:25) both finished in the top 10 in their races. Overall, the Lady Mats (106:26) dropped close to 1 ¹/₂ minutes off of last year’s team time.
