What are your goals?

Posted by Amanda Stephens at Aug 2, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Hi everyone! This Monday, August 4, the girls are going to have a meeting about goals. Even though it is only a girls meeting, this message is for everyone. I have noticed that on both teams, there are only three or four boys and girls that are fully committed to the varsity team. I see only a few people actually training and attending practices like a varsity athlete. The new runners seem to be more dedicated than the varsity level athletes. I don't understand how the boys or the girls are going to get past CIF prelims if we only have 4 boys (not even all of them were varsity) and only 3 varsity girls show up to a Mt. Sac workout. Workouts at Mt. Sac are extremely important and are Mandatory!!! Everything we work for comes down to how we do at Mt. Sac. So everyone should be there to practice. I use this workout as an example because we seem to always be missing someone or lack something in our workouts. Why should the people that always come be forced to work harder because someone decides not to show up? I really liked Jared's message because I believe it is truthful. We need 5 boys and 5 girls to make it to CIF finals. If you don't think you can run with the varsity teams, you can. We will help you. I have pushed many people through workouts and I would gladly push you through one. I'll yell at you until you want to hurt me. Your captains and other runners are here to push you and create a team. Without a team, the top runners are nothing. So far this season we have had vacations, illnesses, and other reasons to not come to practice, all of which are all very valid. Yet, if you need to miss practice, like we all do, make sure you run or do some kind of activity. Even if you're on vacation, try to get as much running in as possible. On some vacations it is impossible, but be ready to be tired and out of shape. Going on vacations doesn't make you slow, as long as you push yourself when you return. I know that all the new runners are giving 120% and I'm so thankful for them. I just hope that more people will step up to varsity level. I want to go to finals this year and I want everyone else to go also. So I hope this message will prompt you to create goals for yourself and the team. I am going to ask all the girls there goals and hopefully the boys will do the same. I will post the girls goals tomorrow and hopefully everyone will achieve them. Thanks For Reading, Amanda Stephens

Welcome Class of 007!

Welcome Class of 007!
La Mirada High School welcomes the class of 2007!  We’re thrilled at the turnout of freshmen to kick off the 2003 season.  On the girl’s team, it may be the largest group of new runners since 1998.   The added depth will be a huge help as the girls attempt to continue their streak of Suburban League Titles and advance to the CIF-SS Finals.  Consistent summer training is the key to a successful season.  The coaches, captains and athletes welcome the following new runners to the team: Armandina Garcia, Kyla Hon, Adele Mata, Jenna Pasillas, Hazzel Perez, Karla Sanchez, Errica Sandoval, Michael Bishop, Marc Garnica, Joey Rodriguez, and Joey & Chad Daccache.
